to take money for this

I have very large breasts that cause me a lot of pain. Shoulder/neck/back issues, nerve damage, sores and rashes etc. The NHS won't help. There was a thread on this recently and I think that concluded that nowadays, breast reduction needs to be done privately.
I'm currently breastfeeding my final child - definitely not having any more. I have quite a high supply and have donated in the past. However, sometimes I do struggle to donate in my local area so have also had to dispose of a freezer stash when it's gone out of date or I've run out of space.
Recently I saw a post asking people about donating regularly to a company who supply it to women who can't breastfeed. I contacted them and it turns out that they pay for it. My thinking is that I could sell the milk to them and then save that money up for a breast reduction. It's the only way I can think of to pay for it myself.

  1. AIBU to sell breastmilk for money?
  2. AIBU to use that money for myself?

I really don't see why not. As long as it is all done safely.

pinknsparkly · 01/07/2020 15:22

Girl - your breastmilk, your body, your choice! The only person who has to be comfortable with the choice is YOU.

That said, given that you've previously donated anyway (so know you wouldn't be taking milk away from your little one), and can't donate locally (so aren't taking free donor milk away from women who couldn't afford to pay for it), I can't really see any potential moral dilemma here at all....

KingofDinobots · 01/07/2020 15:23

Do it. FWIW I’d have loved to be able to buy breastmilk for my eldest.

onalongsabbatical · 01/07/2020 15:55

I think that as a solution has a beautiful symmetry to it OP.

Pjsallday · 01/07/2020 16:00

Do it!

Igotthemheavyboobs · 01/07/2020 16:01

Could you pm me the company name? Yanbu

Also how much do they pay that you could save for a breast reduction?

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 01/07/2020 16:02

I would be interested in the company detail as well

BustyBroke · 01/07/2020 16:13

@Igotthemheavyboobs @YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake They're called neokare. They pay 60p per ounce. I think if I donate my excess then I'll make around £100 per week.

Sounds like an ideal solution!

Igotthemheavyboobs · 01/07/2020 16:35

Thank you! Will look into this Smile

LiquoricePickle · 02/07/2020 11:24

Definitely do it! Brilliant plan.

bridgetreilly · 02/07/2020 11:58

YANBU.

You're providing a service, you need the money, there's nothing immoral in any of this.

Greydrapex · 02/07/2020 12:01

Sounds like the perfect solution x.

Oldraver · 02/07/2020 12:04

Do it OP..

TheQueef · 02/07/2020 12:04

They are just working breast paying their way!
Hope you can pump easily, get plugged in Grin

Floralnomad · 02/07/2020 12:05

Absolutely nothing wrong with your plan at all but it is worth looking down the NHS route for a reduction as some CCGs do still pay for them .

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 02/07/2020 12:05

Good idea!

Wish I’d thought of that. I just paid 7.5k for my breast reduction 😫 3 weeks tomorrow and it’s bye bye boobies!

7ofNine · 02/07/2020 12:08

Are you certain this company is legit? Health authorities operate breast milk banks to supply bm to babies whose mums can't bf. There's no cost involved- mums with oversupply provide the donations, babies receive them. (Inc those in neo-natal care etc).

BlingLoving · 02/07/2020 12:08

I think it sounds like a brilliant plan. And the fact that you've tried to donate is extremely admirable.

Breast reduction changed my life so I'm all in favour of it!
Good luck!

WittyUser · 02/07/2020 12:24

Sounds like a good idea to me Smile

Make perfect sense and you will be helping someone else.

Bluetrews25 · 02/07/2020 18:10

Initially I thought you were going to say you would be topless modelling.....this is way better!
Go for it!

DamnYankee · 02/07/2020 20:46

Great solution! I probably would have paid for more breast milk!

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/07/2020 01:13

I had a BR 19 years ago when my NHS consultant recommended it, and it changed my life.

Sell it, save up. Do it.

If I had to choose one thing (apart from the kids obvs) that I would go through hell for, it would be that.

gumball37 · 03/07/2020 02:04

Do it. I'm in the states and my daughter needed donor mom from a milk bank. Here the mothers (often women who lost their children) donated the milk... But after processing, testing, and fees... The cost for my daughter was $3.75 per ounce. Thankfully it was waived as she was their first outpatient and helped paved the way to get insurance to cover it... Because I certainly didn't have $24000!!!

But had it not been for the donor milk... She would have died. She was failure to thrive... I've never produced milk for any of my babies, but she couldn't even tolerate formula... And we literally tried every option. It was terrifying.
