AIBU to NOT call these people? Strange letter in the post

Got a letter in the mail this morning from a company called "SearchSquad" asking me to help trace someone.

Has anyone ever had one? The company website is vague and they seem to work with individuals and big companies, so debt collectors and random people looking to find someone.

For background, I have a stalker. However as far as I am aware he knows where I live, my name etc as he is a relative that does the school run (thankfully, he seems to have stopped since lockdown.

AIBU to NOT call these people to confirm who I am?

Don't reply or contact them, and a chat with the police on 101 might be helpful.

I agree; you should log it.

Sounds like it was written by a kid. Bin.

Cramitmaam · 01/07/2020 15:00

I agree with other saying to keep the letter! Don't bin it.

Given that you have a stalker I would possibly contact the police about this, just in case it is related.

Either way, it is definitely not legit and no good would come of you complying with their requests.

Is there an address op? 01484 50 is Lindley area, Huddersfield I think.

StatementKnickers · 01/07/2020 15:12

Bin the letter. I wouldn't waste the police's time reporting it, no crime has been committed. What could they do?

TerrapinStation · 01/07/2020 15:19

Sounds like some kind of debt chasing company.

What would the scam be? Unless they are from the 1980s conmen aren't sending out actual letters asking strangers to ring landline numbers surely

resists urge to call

morethanafortnight · 01/07/2020 15:39

Doesn't look like proper headed paper should, with a logo, address and business name etc on it. One might also expect some long reference number or whatnot to quote when contacting them.

All that, combined with a Ltd company of almost identical name having been dissolved several years ago, I'd treat it with suspicion.

I might also be tempted to send a copy to the trading standards people at the local council.

NC for this one.

I found, tucked away on the Search Squad website, an address in Huddersfield:

2 Bradley Business Park,
Bradley,
HD2 1GN

So I looked on Google Maps, and who should be on the map at that address but another company (which is not registered at Companies House either) called Prime Location Services.

Search that name and the results are informative.

I shall now quietly disappear into the woodwork again.

Having just followed the advice to Google, I agree it's very interesting.
