Am I owed £10?

My friend and I used to share an online account at a video streaming service, but we haven't used it for three months. On Monday, my friend paid to stream a video (unbeknown to me) but when it came to watching time the site asked for payment again, so my friend paid a second time. We then watched the video in the evening, even though I wasn't interested in it (my friend wanted my company).

Turns out the first time my friend paid for the video they were still logged onto my account, so the charge was taken from my bank account. The second time they used their own account.

I assumed my friend would offer to reimburse me for the money (£10) that was taken from my account, but it's been two days now and ... nothing.

Do you think I am owed £10?

i dont understand why people are acting as if OP is at fault.... She didnt wan to watch the film, the friend did so friend should pay for the film not OP.... or atleast half.

I wouldnt care about£10 but its the principle that she should have offered.

Resolution: Sent my friend a jokey message saying I would kidnap her cat if she didn't pay me. She sent a jokey message back with an apology and we are going to watch a film on Saturday together, my choice, which she will pay for :)

Why hasn't your friend emailed the customer service to say they were charged twice for the same film?

Thats the real mystery surely Confused

PeterA67 · 03/07/2020 11:08

@loobyloo1234 Because they weren't. They paid for the film once on my account, and then again on their own account as when they tried to cue it up to play, it said they hadn't bought it (as they were now on their own account, not mine), so - for some reason - they paid a second time. I am sure customer service would just say tough.

Not sure I could get worked up over a tenner...

Brendabigbaps · 03/07/2020 11:13

Sounds like amazon prime?
Chat with them and explain that it was bought the wrong acc and you’ll get your money back.

BluebellForest836 · 04/07/2020 07:17

Customer service wouldn’t just say tough.

You bought a product and didn’t get what you bought. Hence buying the same film again. Confused

SillyMoomin · 04/07/2020 07:43

Goodness people it’s not that difficult to understand. OP is using something (I guess) like amazon prime.

Both logged into Person A’s account (as person A has prime). However, if person B wants to watch a video that isn’t available on prime, but instead to rent for £10.99, then when it comes up with an option to pay, person B would use their payment details, not the default person A’s details.

Glad you got it resolved though OP!

So, if I friend takes you out for dinner, then at the end of the meal tells you they charged half the cost of the meal to your account without asking you or telling you, you wouldn't be annoyed in the slightest?

Yes, if you go out for dinner with a friend, you should absolutely expect to pay for half the bill/the food you've eaten. I can't think why you would think otherwise?

Did you miss the ”takes you out for dinner” bit? Hmm

midnightstar66 · 04/07/2020 07:59

If it's amazon and you explain then they will probably refund as good will. They'll see the movie hasn't been watched on your account.

devildeepbluesea · 04/07/2020 08:01

I wouldn't have even brought it up with my friend, it's a bloody tenner.

However it would prompt me to go through the automatic payments leaving my account and cancel anything I don't use.

User43210 · 04/07/2020 08:42

If you haven't watched it on your account, they will likely refund you if you contact soon.

Also, you can back this up by telling them there was a log in confusion and they can check the other account and see it was bought and watched if they need to.

It's £10, OP. Time to let it go and move on.
