New job

Background - I have two kids 1 and 3. DH works 3 days per week, I am the primary earner. Just back from mat leave 5 days per week but was planning to drop to 4 days so I could have a weekday with the kids whilst they are young.

I've been offered a new job, so...?

YANBU - Take the new job. New job is something I want to do and is back doing what I trained for. Varied and interesting role. However there is no option to drop a day to 4 days to be able to have some time with the kids whilst they are young.

YABU - Stay in the old job where you can drop a day. The reason I wanted to drop a day was also as I don't like the job anymore, I don't like the direction it's going in and (prior to mat leave) I was fed up fighting against the tide and clashing with people 'above me'.

New job will be stressful but there's more I can do about it whereas in pretty much powerless now. So stress probably the same.
Money is slightly more for the new job, but not enough to be a deciding factor.

Is there any option to go to 4 days at a later date, next year with the new job?

It sounds like the new one will make you happier. I would however see about most chores being done during the week so that the weekends can be all about quality.

How secure is each job (in terms of the sector)?

how often does a job like the new job come up?

is it rare and niche (head teacher of a school) or something more fluid/large scale (A&E doctor)

I need to sit down with DH and make sure we are on the same page about weekends. I don't want us spending every weekend catching up on chores, doing shopping etc

Both jobs are secure, I'm in healthcare but both jobs are different ends of the spectrum.

This type of job is unlikely to come up regularly whereas the one I'm in now is always recruiting!

There is some flexibility as the new role is quite an autonomous role so maybe I can work that in my favour once I've got to grips with the role.
