I had some lovely big patio doors installed several years ago as part of some other building work, all signed off by building control.
On the weekend, my son accidentally smashed one of the panes when he slammed it shut.
I called round local glaziers but they were shut, so contacted the company we bought it from yesterday, thinking they might still have the details which would make replacing it more simple.
Well, it transpires that the glass fitted was not the safety glass we had paid for and now they are goig to replace all the glass in the doors for free.
We obviously had no idea that we were given the wrong glass, and it's only through this accident that we have found out. Luckily for us, no one was hurt, but the shards of glass from the door were huge (a foot or more long) and jaggedy and could have inflicted horrific injuries if someone had run through them for example.
So, I'm asking you to check your downstairs windows and doors for a kitemark or other stamp that says they are the glass they should be, and if it's missing, find out why (not all windows need them for example).
