Barely seen a soul since mid March, which has been great in terms of coughs and colds in our house.

Yet I've woken up an hour ago with a sore throat. It honestly feels red raw Sad

Where on earth has this come from?!

I've come down with a cold, really sore throat today and starting to get snotty. I'm run down due to lack of sleep from dd2's waking

Thankgoodness1 · 30/06/2020 08:55

I slept with the covers off and awoke very cold in the night. I then woke in the morning with sore throat and cold like symptoms.Confused

I have got a sore throat as well! Really hot here last week (South Coast) and was really floored (Not tempted to join the half a million down on the beach!) Find hot weather makes me tired and leads to sore throats.

OneForMeToo · 30/06/2020 09:06

Yup I woke up with a sore throat the day before yesterday and dh yesterday. No temps or anything but very sore throats. Children haven’t mentioned anything.

LemonTT · 30/06/2020 09:06

We are currently protecting ourselves against Covid. Other infections and disease exist and you are not protecting yourself against all of them.

If you want a test you will get one. Then are not limiting them and all you need to do is book yourself in.

VenusClapTrap · 30/06/2020 09:07

Dehydration. I’ve had minor headaches and a bit of an achey throat since the hot weather. It’s dehydration - I don’t drink enough. Well, except for wine; lock down has had me reaching for the rosé most evenings.

GwenSaturn · 30/06/2020 09:13

I'd get a Covid test to be sure, home tests are so easy to get now.

Sore throat is a really common symptom. The official government symptom list is severely lacking.

Another vote for wisdom teeth for me - I went to the doctors about four times in four months with septic tonsillitis and he eventually sent me to the dentist. All four teeth were impacted, had them taken out under a general and hey presto, no more sore throats.

Bloops · 30/06/2020 09:21

Are you feeling run down? Not enough sleep? Dehydrated? Loads of different reasons for a sore throat.

dottiedodah · 30/06/2020 09:35

Also even if you dont go out ,it doesnt follow that its 100% security against not catching anything ,just reduces the risk!

Metallicalover · 30/06/2020 09:38

Is it not due to the pollen being high? I normally get a sore throat if the pollen is high as my nose and throat become very itchy and have to take an antihistamine x

Hoppinggreen · 30/06/2020 09:40

Dd Hd3 really nasty tonsillitis at the weekend, she hadnt left the house in over a week other than to go in to the garden

Angel2702 · 30/06/2020 09:40

I wake up with a sore throat of the fan had been on all night.

Tulipstulips · 30/06/2020 09:42

@bananallamas

My brother had Covid and his only symptom was a sore throat... no cough. No temp.

I don't know if this means you're eligible for testing or not as sore throat isn't one of the key symptoms. But worth considering as a possibility?

When you have a book a test, you don’t have to prove you have a fever or cough or change in taste/smell. Nor do you have to say at the test centre, if it’s a drive through one. If you’re worried, get tested.
LadyofTheManners · 30/06/2020 09:42

Mine is a mix of asthma and hayfever (I've had the dreaded virus already hence the asthma)

Camomila · 30/06/2020 09:43

Change in the weather? I went to sleep in my summer pjs Friday night with the window open, the weather got cold overnight and I woke up cold with a sore throat.

I almost always get a sore throat when I sleep on top of the covers.

Tulipstulips · 30/06/2020 09:45

But I’d assume you either slept with your mouth open/snored, or it’s allergies. I had a sore throat for much of April, May and June and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t covid - I have had an antibody test and had a swab test when symptomatic, and both were negative.

AnnaBanana333 · 30/06/2020 09:45

I got a cold when I hadn't been closer than 2m to a soul in over a month. I had been shopping a few times, but I was so careful not to touch my face until I'd got home and washed my hands.

I think if we could see viruses and bacteria with the naked eye, we'd all live like the boy in the bubble.

Worldgonecrazy · 30/06/2020 09:46

Have you been wearing a mask when out? There is some anecdotal discussion about a rise in bacterial throat infections caused by mask wearing. You may need antibiotics.

Isitbedtimeyet4 · 30/06/2020 09:58

A horrible sore throat has been making its way around my household! I had it a couple of weeks ago, it was awful! Swollen and sore and a lump on one side, I almost made a docs appt it was so bad! Then my toddler had it last week, and now my baby has it at the moment, although she’s suffering way more than me or my toddler did so have called docs for advice for her! We barely leave the house and haven’t been in a single shop since lockdown began but you can really pick up a bug from anywhere! I hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

Oldraver · 30/06/2020 10:00

I've been waking up with a sore throat in and off for the last few months but it's usually gone after I've been up a while. I've had hay fever for years but not with sore throat

Friend reminded me I've probably been sleeping with my mouth open especially as my sinuses block at night as well. Then I actually caught myself with my mouth open ( sounds odd but woke up suddenly)

Loads of people have h as hay fever this year that don't usually suffer, but I could imagine that you could initially mistake for mild Covid

SeamusFinnigan · 30/06/2020 10:03

How do you feel now, OP? I second IlanaWexler's idea - my DP bought a fan the other day and constantly has it maxed up while we're asleep (I hate the bloody thing now!) and I've been waking up with sore throats.

Alternatively, even if you've never had allergies before, it could be that. I know for a lot of people it changes every year. I never had any until my early 20s and even now it seems to switch between sore throat, runny nose and itchy eyes every year!
