Friend has them in her house. Her abusive ex has broken in 3 times and assaulted her. He is now in prison and the video footage helped put him there.

Idontbelieveit12 · 29/06/2020 18:59

My friends parents used to have a cctv camera to check they were getting home on time as a teenager, they’d be out at the pub 🙄

Purpleartichoke · 29/06/2020 19:01

The entire exterior of our home is covered by cameras. It makes me feel safer, even though we mostly just catch wildlife encroaching. I’m not comfortable having them inside, but DH would if I didn’t object.

crispysausagerolls · 29/06/2020 19:02

We have cameras externally with video playing to our phone live, then we have sensors in every room and alarms, Shock sensors on the windows and extremely secure locks on all doors.

Security is so important!

StormBaby · 29/06/2020 19:09

The only people I know who have them inside both cheated on their exs with each other and are now married. I imagine the cameras are to deter cheating again with someone else.

Now THAT is a good enough reason to have cameras in your house.

Otherwise? I agree with PP saying its an invasion of privacy. I wonder how many people who have cameras inside the house also tell friends and family they are been filmed (which only be fair btw)

kojolo · 29/06/2020 19:20

We have them because before we got them, the care agency never, ever believed us. Not once.

So now we make the report and then when they tell us we are lying or wrong (about whatever it is, usually sleeping but sometimes stealing or yelling etc), we send the video. Much easier.

TimeWastingButFun · 29/06/2020 19:21

We just had them put up outside and we were asked if we wanted them indoors. Nooo thanks, even today my son came downstairs without his clothes as he was looking for his pyjamas. Imagine if the mobile phone app got hacked?? No way.

vanillandhoney · 29/06/2020 19:23

I can totally understand having them turned on while you're out at work or away on holiday so you have evidence of any break-ins. Similarly they' be quite useful for watching dogs etc!

I wouldn't have them turned on if I was home, though. It's a bit creepy to me!

sunshineandshowers21 · 29/06/2020 19:24

i once babysat for a family that had cctv cameras in pretty much every room of the house. it made me feel so uncomfortable and on edge that i never babysat for them again.

Inaquandry19 · 29/06/2020 19:25

We have a couple. They are for monitoring ds (5) who is severely autistic.

BiteyShark · 29/06/2020 19:27

We have a dog camera for watching him sleep, move to a new spot to sleep, move back to the old spot to sleep and repeat Grin.

MyGirlDaisy · 29/06/2020 19:30

I go in and out of clients houses when they are not there for my work. Some clients have told me they have cameras indoors, one started to point them out to me, I said I didn’t need to know as I wasn’t bothered I would just be doing my job. I never ask why they have them, none of my business.

AnnieMaul · 29/06/2020 19:56

I'd never have them in main socialising rooms, like the living room or kitchen bedrooms but I can see the security value in having them in hallways or office for example.

Thelnebriati · 29/06/2020 20:03

Both my neighbour and me have survived a home invasion that involved a weapon. I'd have them in a heartbeat.

SurreyHillsGirl · 29/06/2020 20:04

We have CCTV in the living room and kitchen, we are pretty isolated so it makes us feel safe even though the area is very low crime. We use it to keep an eye on our dogs if we go out but it gets switched off when we are in the house / we have people staying looking after the dogs. Very wrong to have it on when people don’t know, total violation.

Hendalle · 29/06/2020 20:06

We have cameras inside. We got them for the dog Smile as I worry about him when we’re at work. I can check in and see that he’s still in bed, or that he’s been driving water when it’s hot.. basically stops me going mad worrying about him everyday. And our alarm system came with another 2, apparently police are more likely to attend a burglary / alarm activation if there’s proof that the burglars are still in the property. The cameras are only ever on when all people are out of the house.

PumpkinSpicer · 29/06/2020 20:07

We have them in each room. Mostly due to ASD teen

Hendalle · 29/06/2020 20:07
  • drinking water.. not driving..
PumpkinSpicer · 29/06/2020 20:07

Obviously not the toilet, bathroom bedroom

Craiglang · 29/06/2020 20:12

I have a friend who has them all over her house. Her DH travels frequently for work and she says he likes to watch them while he's away so he's still involved in family life Confused He's been known to call her and tell her off for something he's seen on the cameras. She refuses to see how controling that is.

I'd like to get a Ring doorbell but the above puts me off, even if DH never would be bothered to figure out how to use it.

EKGEMS · 29/06/2020 20:15

@Fudgebrownie Lol

EKGEMS · 29/06/2020 20:19

Once put the desktop computer camera on as couldn't identify WHICH of the labradors was guilty of vacuuming up the cat's food and basically saw the guilty canine performing moves worthy of being a stunt double in THE MATRIX

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 29/06/2020 20:22

I think it is fine to have them inside the home if they are focussed on external doors but otherwise are intrusive on residents.

I do know someone who put one up in his mum's room because she had carers in and was saying that they hurt her. (They did hurt her but it was accidental due to her skin being so delicate).

Thelnebriati · 29/06/2020 20:26

I heard of someone using a webcam to find out who was turning the electric fire on every day and it was the dog Grin
