To hang washing out (boring thread alert)

Namechange8471 · 28/06/2020 14:26

So a very boring conversation with DP, he says it’s too windy to hang washing out, I say no it’s going on the line.
Currently sunny with 22mph winds.
I am checking on it often, but too stubborn to put it in the dryer 😂.
I am also a little bit obsessed with live drying 😂.

So
AIBU - Shot it in the dryer
AIBU- Bring it in

Why would you not hang washing out when it’s sunny and 22 mph winds?!!! That’s ideal drying weather.

Winds are 38 mph here and raining occasionally. I’d still put it out rather than tumble dry.

I’m really confused what issue your DH could have with it?

Namechange8471 · 28/06/2020 14:32

In previous weather it has blown off the line...
He’s probably not that arsed to be fair I’m just bored and wanted opinions 😂

Surely it only blows off if your pegging is subpar?

Do you and your DH do much pegging, OP? Or are you usually more conservative?

PumpkinP · 28/06/2020 14:34

I put washing out it looked sunny but it rained now it’s all soaking wet, didn’t hear it raining. Annoying.

purplecorkheart · 28/06/2020 14:35

Ideal weather for drying. Just use plenty of pegs.

Mirrormirrorinthecar · 28/06/2020 14:37

You need old fashioned wooden dolly pegs, and a peg bag. I think they're only a few quid for a biggish pack on Amazon. I live in an extremely windy area and they're the best by far
Always bring the pegs in with you!

Mintjulia · 28/06/2020 14:37

Mmmmm, your oh isn’t a laundry expert is he. Smile

Perfect drying weather

Wakemeuuuup · 28/06/2020 14:38

I hung washing out this morning. It almost dried, then we had a quick heavy shower. I then had to take them off the line and put them in dryer. I'm not happy

Namechange8471 · 28/06/2020 14:38

I’m a shit pegger to be fair. Dp suggested wooden pegs but I bought plastic ones from the pound shop, they’re shit and snap frequently.
I may buy some next time I shop, although I will tell dp they were the only ones available.
Can’t let him take credit 😂

I hate my dryer! For some reason it gives me the rage having to use it...

Mirrormirrorinthecar · 28/06/2020 14:39

I'm also a shit pegger, but with dolly pegs it no longer matters. Long clothes lines are better than whirly ones too

WorraLiberty · 28/06/2020 14:39

Just triple the amount of pegs you use.

I live in a side house and a pillow case once flew off my line and landed on top of a van, that was just pulling away.

I chased it down the road but lost it at the crossroads Blush

Bastard really as that was a brand new set.

Namechange8471 · 28/06/2020 14:50

WorraLiberty That’s just my luck 😂 I can imagine having to chase my granny knickers down the street 😂

I have a rotary line, it's actually made for camping type situations, so it's anchored to the ground by sort of tent pegs.

I dry all my washing on it, obviously not in the rain, but even when it very windy. It's always been fine; I've never lost anything.

You just need to make sure you put the pegs on properly.

megletthesecond · 28/06/2020 15:06

Of course you should put it out. It's windy and sunny. Mine is out.

tabernacles · 28/06/2020 15:26

We are on the 2nd floor and have a balcony with a rotary line.

The line itself is more likely to blow away (out of its stand) when it's windy, than the washing. I use wooden clip pegs and have never lost an item (off the line itself, though I have off the railing, which doesn't lend itself to secure pegging).

dementedpixie · 28/06/2020 15:30

I use plastic storm pegs and they are great. I however will not be hanging anything out today as its raining

dementedpixie · 28/06/2020 15:32

I have these but bought from the supermarket. They last really well

We had the washing out for less than an hour earlier (then it started raining). It's nearly dry. If it's been out for a while can you finish it off inside (tumbled or airers)?

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 28/06/2020 15:43

I hung my sheets out this morning. I secured them with twice as many pegs as normal, but when I retrieved them from a Rose bush, more than once, I gave up.

To be fair, the pillow cases were pretty much dry and the sheet was a bit damp at the edge.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/06/2020 15:46

I hung washing out this morning. It almost dried, then we had a quick heavy shower. I then had to take them off the line and put them in dryer. Why didn't you just leave it out/pef it back out once the shower finished?

dementedpixie · 28/06/2020 15:46

@RedCatBlueCat yes I often hang washing up inside after drying outside, if its still a bit damp

Notajogger · 28/06/2020 15:51

I was going to suggest the same pegs as dementedpixie - they're great, have lasted years (6?) so far and none have broken, and are "hurricane-proof"!

chocolicious · 28/06/2020 15:51

I hung a set of double bedding out today once the morning rain had stoped. Took it in around 30 minutes ago and it's all dry.
It's windy here (East of Scotland) so just used extra pegs. In over 30 years of hanging washing out I've never lost anything off the line.
