To ask what the hell is wrong with me?? Scared

For about a week now.

Whenever I'm moving around I get sudden dizzy spells, feels like my brain is shaking behind my eyes, feel like I'm going to fall backwards. Vision a bit blurry. This happens very very often throughout the day. Sometimes palpitations at the same time.

Also forgetting or mixing up my words a lot.

I'm generally healthy, 32, normal blood pressure and heart rate (checked it), don't smoke, drink too much wine though. Usually very active but have been very sedentary during lockdown.

I have a big fear of hospitals and doctors. I hate going. Especially just now I'd hate it.

Anyone any idea what this could be??

It's definitely not anxiety. My anxiety doesn't present like this.

Probably the Citalopram then.

It's not painful at all, just a bit scary.

Yes about the sex drive. When I was withdrawing from citalopram I felt uncomfortably horny. All the fucking time....

Itwasnoaccident9786756453 · 27/06/2020 19:31

That could easily be withdrawal from the antidepressant imho. Three months is long enough to experience withdrawal.

Itwasnoaccident9786756453 · 27/06/2020 19:31

Sorry didn't read the thread

gavisconismyfriend · 27/06/2020 19:31

Yep, sounds like withdrawal from the citalopram. First time I came off them, went cold turkey and had massive dizziness etc. Second time, initially followed GP advice which was still too quick. Managed it eventually v v slowly

CottonSock · 27/06/2020 19:34

That's exactly how I felt coming off a few different anti depressants, including sertraline and effexor. You are probably over the worst now

Itwasnoaccident9786756453 · 27/06/2020 19:34

There is a charity set up by the earl of Sandwich or some other random person if you Google, for people who experience awful withdrawal. I think it would reassure you to know this is what it could be. However perhaps it would also be easier to chat to a gp from your own home over the internet. There are plenty of options.

SardineOil · 27/06/2020 19:34

Sounds like withdrawal from the anti d's I get this when I don't take my see tramline for a few days. It's horrible, hope it all calms down for you

Itwasnoaccident9786756453 · 27/06/2020 19:35

You did cut down very very suddenly.

Itwasnoaccident9786756453 · 27/06/2020 19:36

The litmus test would be going back on and seeing what happens when you taper off more slowly. If this doesn't ease and you've been checked by a GP, I would do that and then come off much more slowly.

Unevenbeard · 27/06/2020 19:37

I run out of my citalopram prescription and had exactly the same symptoms

Regularsizedrudy · 27/06/2020 19:39

Definitely withdrawal from the meds. Btw snapping in half a 20 does not make a 10, they usually specifically tell you not to do this. The levels in your blood stream have probably been all over the place because of this.

ichifanny · 27/06/2020 19:39

SSRI withdrawel I called it the brain zaps very unpleasant they need to be tapered off very slowly

Itwasnoaccident9786756453 · 27/06/2020 19:41

But don't allow a gp to tell you this is impossible and it's your underlying anxiety talking. If they say that, you're talking to the wrong GP.

Institutkarite · 27/06/2020 19:49

There's too many people saying it's withdrawal to discount their experiences . So I'd definitely see your GP and get yourself checked out for symptoms of a fast withdrawal of a serious drug.
From my own experience, I have this too, I'm not withdrawing from any drugs though.
I definitely have the giddiness and a sliding feeling in my head. Mine is totally due to sinus problems.
I suffer from sinusitis and it's awful. It's the snot sliding around in my head. Sorry TMI
I had a stroke 2 years ago and I've been scared I'm going to have another one.
I'm not because I look back and recognise previous symptoms. I hope that you're able to visit your DR soon and you can get this resolved.

SoloMummy · 27/06/2020 20:02

Labyrinthitis?

Fuckityfucksake · 27/06/2020 20:02

@disconnecteddrifter

I had that withdrawing from citalopram. My doctor fobbed me off said SSRI discontinuation syndrome wasnt a thing. It was. I will never go back on anti ds because of this
This pisses me off massively. It most definitely does exist. They should take notice of the people who do experience it. Don't be afraid to take them again if you need to. A really slow withdrawal helps massively as does a sympathetic GP
JigoloHarMegiddo · 27/06/2020 20:06

Positional vertigo due to coming off citalopram. I have it every time I try to taper it down. Also had it when pregnant (but also taking citalopram, which one could do back them).

It will pass, but it's vicious while it goes on. I've been told, when I want to come off escitalopram, to do it over a full year dropping at 5mg a quarter. But I'm to have "a quiet year with no stress" coping well first 😂😂😂.

hippoherostandinghere · 27/06/2020 20:12

I had this coming off citalopram. Took be ages to work out what it was because it didn't start straight away either. I was only on them for a couple of months too but didn't taper off, just stopped taking them. Hope it passes soon.

mynameiscalypso · 27/06/2020 20:18

I had this when I came off sertraline suddenly (twice). It always had a bit of a delayed impact because it takes a while to work its way out of your system. It definitely went away after a couple of weeks. My psychiatrist confirmed it was discontinuation syndrome.

Barton10 · 27/06/2020 20:22

My mum had those symptoms and she had an inner ear infection. Similar to vertigo but worse. Try going back to your Dr or a walk in centre

Goodebe · 27/06/2020 20:23

I had exactly this when i stopped taking citalopram - it didn’t last long, maybe a couple of weeks. I felt like I was having electric shocks in my brain.

EmpressSuiko · 27/06/2020 20:28

Do you have any migraine or headache like pain or any tension/pinching in your nose?

Last year I had an awful period of dizziness, started as headaches and pressure in my nose so I thought it was a sinus issue related to my allergies as my right ear was also painful and all I could hear was a crackling sound, I also had what felt like heart palpitations.
My GP thought it was vertigo but the medicine made no difference.

I was so scared but had loads of checks and eventually saw an ENT.
They did some tests and put it down to a mix of anxiety and migraines. I was given more medicine but I had to stop taking it as it caused breathing problems and by the time they gave me a new prescription it started to ease up.
The ENT told me dizziness is such a common symptom for a range of things but it’s very common with migraines, even if you feel no pain, best thing to do is go to a GP, I know your scared but it’s the only way to get any answers.

Make a list of all your symptoms, how and when it started, how long the dizzy spells last for, how often it happens, has it increased/decreased etc etc.

My dizziness eventually eased but it made my life absolutely miserable, I constantly felt like I was falling and would induce panic in me, it lasted several months but I’m so glad it’s improved now, I get the odd spell here and there again.

FFSFFSFFS · 27/06/2020 20:36

Citalopram withdrawal. It's a fucker.

Casino218 · 27/06/2020 20:40

Rather than try to get a diagnosis from a load of people that don't have a bloody clue. Why not make an appointment at your GP. Blurred vision and dizziness could be something serious ( or something minor). Go get a proper medical check.
