DH announced he will be WFH until October. He is incredibly pressured at the moment and this will build to a peak in August, right in the middle of the school holidays. Small terraced house so wherever he works we still need to be quiet all day. I'm dreading this with school holidays. It is normally filled with activities but looks like they will all still be closed. Put up with this for about 13 weeks now. AIBU to think the 7 weeks holiday will be strained ? I have no car btw

Is he wfh because his company have said so or is it a choice?

Could you go and stay with family/friends for a few days now and then, and take the kids out on day trips some of the rest of the time?

If you're in/near London there's bound to be stuff open by then, but if you posted the general area you live in, I bet other posters would have suggestions for days out that are accessible by public transport.

Does he have a separate room he can work in where he isn’t disturbed by the kids? If so I think he’ll have to tolerate normal background family noise or buy some noise cancelling head phones. There needs to be compromise.

He can expect silence! Likewise he shouldn’t be disturbed throughout the day while working.

Sorry I meant can’t expect silence!

It's at the stage where it's probably worth investing some cash to make things as doable as possible. So, does he have a dedicated desk somewhere as out of the way as possible, ideally in a bedroom? Work sacrificing something like a chest of drawers or whatever to make this happen if you can as it will help you all if he can close a door.

He also needs some noise cancelling headphones so normal family noise doesn't disturb him. But as others have said, he can't expect you all to live in absolute silence either.

Get out as much as you can, nice long walk in the morning or whatever just to give you all a little space from each other.
