Neighbours brambles!

Are driving me a bit crazy, I’m not sure what to do?

We have to cut them back almost constantly as they poke through the fence.

We are planning on installing a brand new fence but I’m scared that they are just going to break through the tiny gaps in between the fence slats again and force their way through and we will be left with brambles coming in again and a damaged brand new fence.

What would you do?

There’s zero point talking to the neighbours about it, the brambles cover almost their whole garden and are over 6 foot high in places.

Our nice bottom of the garden neighbour put weed killer on his garden and it must have leaked under the fence as several plants died in my garden. That was error.

I suggest you start discretely using weed killer along the border ( lean over and spray when he is out).

Don’t try to be nice and reasonable and he probably won’t even notice.

Sounds a bit like how the previous owner of our house left it (right down to the big tree saplings), wonder if he's now your neighbour Sad

Apply brushwood killer to the leaves and stems. Keep pets and children away until the stuff has dried. You can get it from Amazon or Wilkos.

Op ask a landscaper to get you some industrial strength weedkiller...my dh is one and he has some kind of licence to use the super strong stuff...i think its for agricultural use....its not available for the general public to buy.

@Elsewyre

You can get a poison you put on the cut ends of brambles and it travels down to the roots to kill the whole plant.

Snip the branches your side coat the cut tips job done

What is the name/brand of this product? My neighbour hates my brambles coming into her garden and asked me to get rid, but I kinda never got round to finishing the job. We did put up a strong fence though.

Use a weed killer called SBK stump killer, mix it at 50/50 and paint it on the leaves (wear gloves) now is time to apply it whilst they are growing, you can also cut the brambles and apply to the cut end as close as possible to the root ball.
However, unless you can destroy all the brambles, new suckers will continue to come through your fence but you can certainly slow them down.
Its a broadleaf herbicide and won't kill grass but you can't grow into the soil where it has been applied but thats on his side?

Don't know the law on spraying his brambles but neighbour disputes rarely end well!

My MIL (who has an absolute beauty of a garden, which is her pride and joy) has an NDN who hasn't touched her back garden for several years. The brambles are approx 8' high in places, growing over trees and shrubs.

I asked MIL if it bothers her, and she said she's delighted because it's full of wildlife and she gets loads of privacy because they never go out there. She just trims any bits that grow through the fence.

The neighbour doesn't go in the back garden because there are slow-worms out there, and she's terrified of them.

YOu could try glyphosate or another systemic weedkiller. Applied to shoots it will travel back to the roots and kill the plant over about 3 weeks. Might have to do it more than once with bramble.
