Life assurance - do you have it?

I'm currently unemployed but will have no inheritance to leave my dc if God forbid, I was to die.
So today, I signed up for life assurance.
Given pre-existing conditions, it's not such a bad payout £40k in the event of my death for the 28 years I'll be 'insured'. So, up to age 70.
£8/month.
If I get back into employment, I'll double it, which results in double the payout, but at least there would be a little something for dc in the event of my untimely death.

Just wondering whether everyone has this - particularly if you're unemployed?

OP I don't mean to be rude but it is clear from your posts that you haven't a clue about any financial matters. I would be very concerned on your behalf that you might have been taken advantage of and sold an unsuitable policy which would just be a waste of your money.

I have life insurance that goes up with inflation, so in the event of my death, it pays out £250k. I also have critical illness cover (£25k payout)
Life insurance is split 50/50 between my two kids. I do need to write a will, as my kids are too young for that financial burden and I should really allocate someone to be responsible for it until they come of age. It's on the to-do list.

I got the life insurance as I have no mortgage or "proper" assets, so it's the best chance I have of leaving my children anything useful to help them in life. Which is depressing but sadly not uncommon for the working class.

Euclid - you wouldn't be far wrong but I'm a quick learner. When I get the documents in the post I'll read through.

The thing is, I have one of the illnesses that they ask about in the first part of the questionnaire. Think something relatively serious (though I pretend that I don't have it).

When I say I pretend I don't have it, I mean that I don't feel any physical effects of it, so I deny to myself that I have it, so much so when doctors ask whether I have any medical conditions I mention Asthma and gastritis, but totally forget to mention the more serious chronic condition! I didn't mean that I lie about it intentionally.
