To think I can lose 1 stone/ 14 lbs in 6 weeks..

I've gained weight during lockdown and am struggling to fit into my clothes. We've booked a stay-cation for the 10th August and there will be a pool. Of course I will have to get in with the kids and i am just dreading it :(

Is it realistic to think if I stick to 1200 cals per day and do some light exercise (theres no point pretending I'm going to turn into a gym bunny) that I can lose 1 stone in 6 weeks?

Im currently 5ft 4 and 10st 6lbs.

all of my weight seems to be on my belly so I look 6 months pregnant. My legs and arms are still skinny

Maybe you need to check with gp first.
Could be something other than weight gain.

Blood sugar diet or Fast 800. I have lost 8.5lbs in 10 days.

Please don’t reduce your calories to 1200 or 1000 like others have suggested, my god that is so unhealthy and dangerous.

You need to fuel your body for the weight to come off, you need to ensure your hitting your macros every day (protein, fibre etc) you can’t hit them on 1200.

Total rubbish. There’s plenty of fuel in the form of fat to use up.
1000 calories is masses of healthy veg with a bit of protein thrown in. That’s all your fibre, vitamins and minerals if you do it properly. No idea why anyone thinks you suddenly eat better with 500 more calories than needed.

You do realise absolutely nobody is going to notice?

bridgetreilly · 26/06/2020 23:17

Nothing should be stopping you enjoying time in the pool with your children. Even if you were twice the weight you are now.

You do not have to starve yourself for the next month to be allowed to be seen in public.

All bodies are bikini bodies.

This.

Stop worrying about it.

@Crunchymum I now do not follow it. I do 16/8 but I am still losing weight.. just more slowly. I needed that quick loss to motivate me. I'm happy now to go slow and steady!

DamnYankee · 26/06/2020 23:25

Intermittent fasting, upping your movement, limiting carbs, no booze Sad

Keep in mind the first few pounds will be water weight, likely. Expect a plateau and fight through!

Good luck!

I just had a very heavy period, definitely just weight gain.

There was someone on here had skinny arms and legs and big belly and it was something serious.

Agreed. OP, if that's your body shape, then you need to have a conversation with your GP to check that there isn't something concerning going on.

What a lovely post @CaptainBrickbeard.

I’ve started wearing shorts for the first time and I’m nearly 40. To think of all the years I wasted covering myself up... it’s so silly.

Yes. But also at 5’4” it’s very common to be an “apple” and put all your weight on your stomach area - I know I do.

vanillandhoney · 27/06/2020 06:44

People aren't referring to pregnancy OP. Considerable weight gain around the stomach but not elsewhere is a sign of ovarian cancer.

Please get yourself checked by your GP.

I've lost just over a stone in that time OP, like you I wasn't overweight as such but just fed up of the extra layer of padding I had accumulated that stopped my clothes fitting nicely!
I've tried other diets and the only way this came off was a sustained period of 1000 calls a day (fasting between 8pm and 12pm) plus regular running and resistance training. I've tried 1200 a day and just lost nothing at all for weeks, I did the Michael Moseley 800 calls a day but it was just too few calories for me and no matter how much protein I ate I was always starving. 1000 a day seems to be just right for me, I make much healthier choices but there's enough room for snacks to keep me going (and out of the biscuit tin!) while still losing weight.

But while I'm on fewer calories now I'm eating a LOT more healthily, I've enjoyed discovering new recipes and sauces and food combinations that I hadn't eaten previously. My DH has been enjoying some of my recipes too. I actually enjoy planning my meals and am also sleeping much better. Sugar and alcohol seem to be my worst sleep affecting factors.
I do have occasional treats and the odd glass of wine if I want it but this is the only diet that I've been able to really stick to. I use MyFitnessPal to weigh and track everything.

I'm in my mid 40s and have accepted that this needs to be a long term adjustment for me, once I'm at my goal weight I'll play around with my calories to see what my healthy maintenance level is, I suspect it's much fewer calories than I used to think! Good luck with it!Smile

If you have just gained weight in your abdomen I would recommend atrip to the GP
