Will future lockdowns be taken seriously?

Given the amount of people ignoring or being confused by this lockdown, do you think if the country needs to lockdown in the future for any reason, that people will oblige or will people be fed up and remember 2020 and therefore ignore the new lockdown?

Or would it depend on the type of lockdown e.g. whether it was due to health/terrorism or whatever?

I wonder if future governments would aim to use lockdown as a last resort due to the way people have responded to this lockdown and basically ignored it.

What do you think?

I think the majority of people have responded really well to lockdown in this country. Don't be fooled by the media who try to portray everyone as rule breakers, that's simply not true. Although any future lockdowns for this virus (unless localised) will not happen, it's too damaging to society and the economy and I think most people want to live their lives.

Is there evidence that people have ignored it though? Yes, towards the end fewer people followed the rules but for the first couple of months the majority of people did stay at home as much as they could and avoided close contact outside their households. Key indicators such as the amount of traffic on the roads in comparison to normal times were monitored and showed a massive drop. There was always an expectation that there would be a proportion of people who couldn’t or wouldn’t social distance, we just needed enough of us to follow the rules to try and make it work, unfortunately it took so long because we didn’t lockdown sooner.

I think that the government always knew that 12+ weeks was too long to expect compliance but it was a case of trying to keep things shut down as long as possible. That’s why they did things 3 weeks at a time to try and stop people getting overwhelmed by the idea of such a long stretch even though the numbers showed that it was likely to be necessary.

Would lockdown work in future for any reason is an interesting question. I think it depends on how far in the future you’re talking about, If we’re talking about say a second wave towards the end of this year I’m not sure, I suspect that people will still be reeling from the impact of this lockdown and politically we’ll likely be in the thick of a blame game where all the mistakes made by the government are being exposed so there won’t be much trust.

However if we’re talking 5+ years in the future and studies have proved that lockdowns where the best approach to suppressing the virus I’m sure that the general public would accept it as necessary.

For any other situation such as terrorism or a cyberattack I think it all depends on how scared people are and how much trust there is in the government at the time.

If targeted at the source of a spike that's fine now. But I don't trust Johnson et al to tell us the truth about anything anymore.

Europe is wary about UK entering their territories, and who could blame them, just like they are wary about Sweden for example.

The way the UK has failed during this pandemic is a meme for the future. Abysmal, but they still think they are the dogs blx.

But Brexit will be great soon also, just wait, lol.
