I don't want to go!

It's my sister's birthday and we agreed we'd go to the zoo. Then the plan changed and she said she wanted to go to a water park and have a BBQ. My sister and her boyfriend are very athletic and absolutely gorgeous. They put a lot of emphasis on eating clean and staying fit. My husband and I are athletic too but we like our food. I gave birth not too long ago and I haven't exactly bounced back. I'm not "fat" but I'm definitely not happy with my body. I've also got stretch marks and scars and excess skin. I was very unwell during my pregnancy and a lot of my hair fell out. I can cover it when it's styled properly but if it gets wet then I think it'll all show.
I just don't want to go. I'll feel judged and ugly and fat and self-conscious. What do I do?

Don’t miss out because of what you think someone else thinks you should look like. Get out there and have fun!

@Notupforit if you put your hair up in a messy bun would that cover it OP? Sorry it that's already been asked. Not sure where you are based but Matalan have some really good swimsuits. Hope this helps x

I sympathise with this. I'm the same. I'm not fat but I have cellulite and a few pockets of fat which I can't budge since baby and hate getting my kit off for anything. It might help if you wear it around the house first (weird i know) you get used to your body and remember it's not actually as bad as you thought once you've seen it a while

Can you have a word with your sister and just go but not participate in water stuff other than having a paddle?

  1. Think of someone you love, perhaps your mum or aunt or gran. Think about their wrinkles/stretch marks/cellulite/flabby tum. Do you judge them, or love them any less because of their imperfections?
  2. Plan to make the day easier for you and the baby. Eg. wear a t-shirt and shorts to paddle. Don't stay too long if you're not enjoying it. Have your hair in a scarf/hat/tied back.
