When did you start buying baby clothes?

I’m 15 and a half weeks pregnant. Is it too soon to be buying baby clothes etc? Should I be waiting for the 20 week anomaly scan just in case?

(I know there is no right or wrong answer to this - just interested in people’s thoughts!)

I barely bought anything as knew we would inherit loads from older cousins, but I bought a couple of neutral babygrows after my 12 week and a couple of nice outfits after my 20 week scan when we knew the gender. I think if I had to buy everything I would have started getting a few bits as and when I saw them from 12 weeks and really ramped it up in the third trimester.

@AliasGrape my DS was 9lb and for the first 2 weeks he wore the same 5 'up to 1 month' babygrows on rotation as I knew he wouldn't be in them for long so I refused to buy any more, but the 0-3 month stuff still swamped him!

We waited until after the 20 week scan to make sure everything was okay. I lost my first daughter at 16 weeks pregnant last year - I had bought a few bits before that, but I find it comforting to know that her little sister will get to wear her outfits 🙂

I will say, buying things during lockdown has been a nightmare with most places sold out of newborn and 0-3 month outfits! I'm 26 weeks and have bought most of the basics just in case we hit a second wave in Autumn. Something to consider!

I'd start soon if I were you. I bought a lot for my baby in the sales in a range of sizes and it's coming in handy now just being able to take out the box of clothes in the next size up as she gets bigger. Saved me loads of money!

I don't know where you shop, but Next, Vertbaudet, Frugi, H&M... don't seem to have any shortage of baby clothes.

Not my personal choice, but there are tons of second hand baby clothes available everywhere - even more than usual as the tips and the charity shops have been closed for so long. Parents only keep a couple of items at most, so are more than happy to get rid of clothes that have only been worn a few months.

Hi! I left it until after 20 week scan, I'm 34+3 now and have almost everything. I don't know the sex either so got a fair amount of neutral things. As some others have mentioned shortages, I found a fantastic British company called tallula little, they do a load of organic cotton baby grows and vests and seem to have plenty of stock and as a bonus there's 50% off right now, so it's worth it if you're interested Wink.www.talulalittle.com/unisex-organic-baby-clothes/ I also used an online shop called little green radicals (I'm a bit of a hippy). Congratulations and I hope you find everything you need!
