To think that vegan burgers shouldn't represent rare beef?

I'm not a vegetarian or vegan I just prefer vegan burgers/sausages etc so I don't have to deal with bits of gristle.Cooked a "No Bull" vegan burger for dinner and it genuinely looked like rare meat inside. If it put me off a bit then surely not many vegans would be able to stomach these? Tasted OK but probably wouldn't buy again.

They're still the same pink colour inside, but the texture is firmer and drier and there's no pink juice/liquid when you cut into them.

I enjoy jackfruit, sweet-potato and pepper and beetroot burgers. I don't mind other kinds but I bought some aldi no beef burgers and I could not eat it because it was foul. Normally their vegan /vegetarian stuff is good but these were awful.

@lilyboleyn

I hate anything made to look, taste or feel like meat. Recently started moving away from the quorn and Linda McCartney type stuff - it’s all getting a bit meaty. I’m vegetarian because the thought of dead bodies in my mouth freaks me out, and therefore YADNBU.
Sausages and burgers don't taste or resemble dead bodies in any way.

M&S did a lovely veggie range which was vegetable based, but since this new plant based vegan fad came in in January, it's all been changed to look like fake meat. So shit for vegetarians.
Don't get me started on the lovely veggie food that has now been made vegan instead. So not both options, just take the veggie one away.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 23/06/2020 19:48

Uh, some vegetarians do actually like fake meat.

Bmidreams · 23/06/2020 19:50

But some don't, and the whole range has been affected.

Whitepriv · 23/06/2020 19:52

To be fair, I love the taste of meat but try to have as little as possible for ethical/environmental reasons so for me the more realistic the better!!

I don't eat meat as I agree with PP about not having dead bodies in my mouth. That's exactly what they are, ground up flesh.
I had never tried any meat, bar sausages and sausage rolls before and thought a couple of years ago I'd try it to see if I liked it. All I can say is '"YUK!" :p It was gross. The taste and texture.
I can't eat vegie/vegan food that has the texture and taste of meat. I tried Squeaky Beans' vegie chicken nuggets a while ago and couldn't eat them as they were too authentic!

CamelsAreMathematicians · 23/06/2020 20:09

It's not just some veggies that don't want fake meat, not all vegans like it either. I'm happy to see more options available, I just wish it was not at the expense of more "planty" ones. That and the fact every other vegan option seems to be spicy in some shops can make it harder for me to find freezer options despite the bigger range.

I'm pretty sure M&S still do a sweet potato burger and a beetroot burger (or are those sausages? I can never remember) as part of their plant kitchen range.

Personally I'm not fussy and will happily eat both .

I'm vegan. Loved meat and no bull are my favourite go to burgers. I didnt stop eating meat because I don't like meat.

If you don't like meaty things don't buy things that are meant to represent meat. There are plenty of veggie burgers out there.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 23/06/2020 21:29

The oomph burgers are the same. You're meant to pan fry them to give a "rare" effect but I think it's horrible! Massively put me off them. It's a bit better if you over cook them in the oven. My dp who eats meat occasionally likes them the best though. He's reducing his meat consumption for various reasons but still loves the taste so the rare vegan burgers are good for him. But I find the idea of meat repulsive so prefer "burgers" which are obviously made from beans or falafal or something non meat related.
