...climate breakdown should be front page news?
Yesterday it was reported that a Siberian town had experienced 38C, completely unprecedented. Now I’ve just seen that 45C has been recorded in Siberia. AIBU to think that it’s long past time to stop treating the irreversible and accelerating changes we are making to our planet as a niche issue, and start putting it front and centre?
We have known for decades that this was coming.

Even if an asteroid was about to hit I'm convinced that a majority of people would refuse to believe it.

It was reported in The Guardian last week, but with all the Coronavirus news it went a bit under.

I do hope this was just a bit of unfortunate juxtaposition and I didn't miss some truly important news 😁

@justanotherneighinparadise

It’s too big to solve sadly. People just aren’t prepared to pedal backwards and give up their lifestyle. We are trying to bring more developing countries out of grinding poverty which unfortunately will just increase the speed of climate change. I do fear for my children’s lives but not for my own. I’m completely accepting of our fate in many ways but do feel immensely sad that I dragged my kids into it.
I have to be honest and say that I’m glad I don’t have grandchildren and am unlikely to.

People don't want to know because then they would need to face up to the fact that the way we live is appalling and unsustainable. The knots people will tie themselves onto on here to explain why it is perfectly acceptable and not at all damaging to continue living the lifestyle they want are insane. It would be laughable if it wasn't so depressing.

The response to CV shows that if we really really had too, we can alter our lives very dramatically.
Trump and other populist leaders like Johnson and Bolzano would need to go first but hopefully if Trump is kicked out in November, the world order might change.

To limit Co2 emissions, we would need to do a 10th of what we've had to do with CV and we don't need to trash the global economy to do so either.
