To need tips (weights loss)...

So I know it’s obvious...eat well and exercise.
I’m currently shielding so exercise is limited although due to ill health this is always the case at the moment.
Since having DC, I can’t tone my tummy up and I hate the look of myself. It doesn’t work so I give up.

How can I get the motivation? Any tips for losing weight?

Calorie count using an app on your phone. Measure or count or weigh every bloody molecule you ingest, right down to the milk in your tea. No eating between meals. Get out and walk a mile or two if you can.

Teacaketotty · 22/06/2020 23:03

I calorie count and do 18/6 fasting which works well for me, also getting out with the pram most days if I can! Managed to shift a good bit of baby weight that way. Good luck x

Charles11 · 22/06/2020 23:06

Fasting. 16:8 works well for me. And 17:7 works even better. I don’t know why, but that 1 hr makes a huge difference to me.

TORDEVAN · 22/06/2020 23:07

I’m similar (but not shielding - DH is NHS though so can’t share childcare)

With my 3 (Under 3) I’m struggling to exercise well (we go for what I would call ambles at best!) and my PND is resurfacing so struggling with healthy eating!

Ironytheoppositeofwrinkly · 22/06/2020 23:09

I'm severely overweight atm (BMI of 40) and I've lost 5lbs so far just drinking extra water and fasting on a 16:8 plan.

Teacaketotty · 22/06/2020 23:18

@Charles11 that’s interesting that an extra fasting hour makes a difference for you, can I ask what times you normally go for?

Charles11 · 23/06/2020 06:00

@Teacaketotty I usually go from 12-7 so I make sure I’ve finished dinner by 7.

Rubbleonthedouble1 · 23/06/2020 08:28

Sorry for being stupid..what does 18:6 fasting mean?

16:8 is essentially only eating during an 8 hour window, so eating 11-7 or similar. Google TRE (Time Restricted Eating) for health benefits as it's not just good for losing weight. I'm doing the Fast 800... 4 weeks in and I've lost nearly a stone. I'm doing 16:8 or variations thereof (most days... sometimes I have Greek yogurt and blueberries if I'm absolutely starving.) I needed to do something fast and drastic as none of my summer clothes fit and I do feel like I'm eating really healthily with loads of salads and veg. The downside is that when I go back to work I don't know if I'll be able to keep it up as meal prep does take longer.

Heatherj96 · 23/06/2020 10:05

Iv been calorie counting, using a weighted hoop 20 mins every other night and iv lost 2 stone!

Its a real struggle with 2 young kids!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/06/2020 10:08

Are you after losing weight or is it the I can’t tone my tummy up?
You don't tone up by diet. If you have health issues, it might be worth to speak to a trainer who could help you figure out toning routine which you can safely do. And people underestimate skin care!

For general weightloss, calorie counting works for me.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/06/2020 11:06

Don't snack / graze between meals as this keeps insulin raised all day
Eat meals, nothing between

BigChocFrenzy · 23/06/2020 11:09

Calories from alcohol and sweet junk are preferentially stored as fat around the stomach rather than elsewhere

so cut right back on these.

Dowload some of the short HIIT videos,
because short sharp bursts of exercise can help issues of insulin metabolism,
which fat concentrated around the stomach suggests

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 23/06/2020 11:15

Just eat smaller portions of your usual food, don't snack and accept that being a bit hungry from time to time is a normal, natural part of life.

Have you thought about doing some online classes? I do Les Mills and there are photos there of a parent doing a class with their toddler doing their own version? A lot of them you don’t need equipment and although I’m sure it’s not perfect presumably there will be times partners are at home to supervise or kids are asleep.

It’s definitely mostly diet unfortunately but for doing steps I have taken a leaf out of Team RH on Facebook and do a march on the spot if I’m short on steps and it’s horrible outside, I do this in front of the tv whilst watching something trashy

qwertyuiop098 · 23/06/2020 11:22

I would really recommend couch to 5k - makes building up your running distance easier and achievable. Plus you can just walk out of your front door and run, no equipment needed. The app is free.

It’s £97 so pos a little expensive but DP and I are about to start on Joe Wicks’ 90 day plan which gives you all your (easy) recipes and 4 25-min HIIT workouts a week. They get you to do weigh-ins and before and after photos each month so quite good for accountability and motivation.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

SinglePringle · 23/06/2020 11:23

I'm doing low-carb (eat some fruit and a lot of vegetables) Weight Watchers. I only drink alcohol on Saturday night and a glass with lunch on Sundays. I'm exercising at home (HIIT and yoga every day) and don't eat between meals. I've lost 10lbs in 3 weeks. Another 7 - 8lbs to go and I'll be happy.

Paranoidmarvin · 23/06/2020 14:31

Do u have a photo of yourself slimmer. I have one where my husband and I went to Disney when we met. I was eight stone. And I look good. I have moved that to where I can see it. And keeps me going.
Also. The comments that people make about my weight keep my going. As I want to shove it in their face when I’m skinny ( yup I’m aware this is not good thought to be having. )
Mine is also to be prepared. Don’t come home late and grab whatever bad use ur hungry. My sinners are ore cooked and I know what I’m having.
