About mildew on baby things

We were very kindly gifted some baby stuff for my baby who is due any day. However one of the items, a baby rocker chair has got mildew on it. I have tried all sorts to get it out but I can still see it. Dh thinks as it has been washed it will be fine and says he isn't sure it is mildew but I think it definitely is and I don't like the thought of baby sitting in a chair with mildew on.
So wibu to not use it and buy a new one? Pics attached so I can get opinions on whether it is definitely mildew.
If I don't use it I am not sure what I will say to gifting friends, I am sure they will be mortified and I don't want them to feel bad.

I would try rubbing Milton on it / soaking in Milton as a last ditch attempt but if any spots remained then bin.

I don’t know whether it’s dangerous or just undesirable, but either way no thanks to mould near the newborn baby imo.

Thank you, tried a soak in Milton and mould and mildew remover but that didn't shift it either, managed to get bleach marks on my black t shirt though 🙄

I kept some toddler toys that had a few superficial specks of mildew (from being stored badly between DCs) but not for a newborn and not when it goes close to their mouths. Most mildew is just undesirable not dangerous, but some mould is dangerous and some people react much worse than others. If you have any asthmatics get rid.

Buy a new one- I would never gift someone such things without checking this kind of stuff

By superficial specks of mildew I don't mean like this chair. That's not superficial, that's an issue

I would bin it I'm afraid, you've done your best to clean it up but definitely still mouldy.

If it's been washed, I doubt very much whether it'll be still alive. What you'll have is stains where mildew used to be. But if it'll upset you, you're fine not to use it.

I wouldn't be using that op and I was not at all precious about dc having second hand stuff as long as it was in decent condition.

That's the caveat though, decent condition.

I've borrowed a couple of items off my sister in law that had a small amount of mould/mildew.
I sprayed thoroughly with cif mould and mildew bathroom cleaner, than slung it on a long 60 degree wash. They've come out just like new. Any chance you can detach the fabric to be able to do the same?

I wouldn't use that. Get a new one if you can.

If you can machine wash it put some borax powder in the drum with it and wash as normal, that should get it out

I have tried all the suggestions already. We are also using mostly second hand stuff but I didn't know whether obsessing over this was part of my hormones and nesting I seem to be doing! Thank you all for your input. Off to buy a new chair as if no baby by Friday I am being induced 😊

There’s no way I’d be happy with mildew like that on something for a newborn and I’m usually very happy with 2nd hand. And although I know they shouldn’t sleep in a bouncy chair for prolonged periods the likelihood is the baby will nap in it, I certainly wouldn’t but my baby on a mouldy mattress or blanket even if it had been washed.

My baby's pushchair seat, pushchair toys and my changing bag have that on them (from getting wet in the rain, then left to dry in the garden shed). They've been machine washed multiple times and it won't come out. Nobody has got sick because of it, it will be fine but it doesn't look great. Nobody would blame you if you wanted to buy a new one or ask for a new one as a gift.

We had this all over a jumperoo that had been in storage. The only thing that works is the dettol mould and mildew spray in the green bottle.
Spray on neat and then wash off.

You can actually see the black spots disappearing before your eyes. It’s great.

Get a spray bottle of mould an mildew remover (Poundland). Spray it, leave it for a couple of hours as it takes a while to work, then stick it in the washing machine.

Doesn't mold & mildew remover take the colour out though? I've spilt it on towels cleaning the bathroom and it's ruined them.....
