to feel beyond annoyed every time someone says 'schools have never been closed'

Because to the vast majority of children they have been. I feel it completely dismisses how serious this is for most dc and their families. Schools may have been open to 15 or so keyworker dc throughout this, and now to a couple of years worth of dc in years which seem completely illogical (except for the few hours years 10 and 12s have been afforded which is essential).

But it’s incredibly hard working full time and homeschooling/ looking after dc at the same time.

Teacher parent doing this!!

@LolaSmiles absolutely-it’s context.

Yes, there's been key worker provision for my kids but only in the days I was actually in school, until more recently. They said if you can keep them home, do. So I did.

And that's naff all help of your child was under 4 until the last week or two as well.

I was teaching with my own kids at the kitchen table with me. We know all about working and childcare/home schooling!!

Yes it’s been tough for everyone. And certainly no criticism of teachers from me- just of those people saying I should be ‘enjoying the time with my children’

It’s very easy to say ‘it’s rubbish but we just have to get on with it’ if you have a job that allows that.

I’ve been able to wfh to a degree, however it’s been very hard and my mental health is shot. I’m off sick as a result. I’m NHS and I have no intention of going back to work until I can actually do my job, ie until my children are in school and I’m not faced with a choice between them and my patients.

I also have the humility to realise that not everyone has capacity to WFH and you can’t really trot out the ‘suck it up’ Mantra to them.

Women are very badly affected by this.

More to the point given the general inconsistency amongst state (primary) schools are any mums here actually relying on the school and not instead like most in schools I know just trying our utmost to sort out our own home schooling? It is not like there is any choice is there? Can we expect the schools to help? I don’t blame my school but just get on with it and bored so messing around on this chat group to keep some remaining brain cells functioning while “wfh” obviously! Can’t just do teaching and wfh without some Mumsnet chat “entertainment”.

Good luck mums of UK with the home teaching and wfh number! Special circumstances so won’t drag on forever hopefully!!
