In particular which areas are sought after in St Albans? Even street names please. We have been living here a year ish in renting but ready to buy now and would rather get something smaller in a nice area that would be easier to sell when it comes to that.
So any areas in St Albans you would/wouldn't recommend please, thanks for the help!

I wouldn't send mine to Verulam. We are friends with 2 couples that both have 2 boys there. Neither is impressed and both have had some pretty serious concerns.

Plus, my aunt lives on Jennings Road so I see first hand how awful the behaviour is of the older Verulam kids who are allowed out during the day.

Verulam boys school is not doing great at the mo. A friend of mine is a teacher in St A and she says there are big issues with teaching and management.

If you can afford what you want there- Marshalswick would be my shout. Otherwise it depends what you value more- green space, a driveway, less built up and a clean and spacious vibe- chiswell green. A bit cool and closer to the train station- fleetville.

If it’s secondary schools you’re most concerned by I’d blow the budget and move to Marshalswick.

Verulam adjoins my garden . I work from home and see them leave / arrive every day, I have very, very rarely seen any bad behaviour by the boys. Just the normal , good tempered goofing about you’d expect from teenage boys.

Verulam is a good school for a boyish boy who likes sport. I know a few sensitive types who have not flourished there.

@intheningnangnong so what's up Nicholas Breakspear?

recklessruby · 30/07/2020 22:28

My friend has/had dc at Nicholas Breakspear. Her dd is very shy and quiet and was bullied quite badly.
Her ds didnt do too well in GCSE s despite being bright. He was allowed to be lazy.

I felt the ‘Good’ ofsted having dragged itself out of special measures was window dressing. That and the very obvious and constant religious brainwashing means a total no no for me.

AnnaSW1 · 31/07/2020 10:46

To those who say no to the camp area can I ask why. I'm also house hunting but don't know the area. Thanks so much

Chickenkatsu · 31/07/2020 10:58

@intheningnangnong thanks for that info, we've had enough religious brainwashing at the DC's primary to last us a lifetime. The school rhymes with staple.

Does anyone know if St Albans Independent school for boys is very religious?

@AnnaSW1 there is nothing wrong with the camp area, it's just not as wealthy as some of the other parts of St Albans. There is still loads of benefits such as parks and the good train line.

AnnaSW1 · 31/07/2020 11:10

Thanks for the reply. Good to know Smile

Bernard's Heath is nice and probably more affordable than Marshalswick. Also much easier to get into town/the station if you're walking. Junior school has outstanding Ofsted and depending on where you are you would get into STAGS/Sandringham.
