AIBU?

Are you honestly sticking to 2m social distancing?

From my point of view lowering the social distancing to 1m will make no difference to the R number. I have quite a lot of friends of all ages and no of no one (apart from one family who are shielding so not going out) who is actually sticking to this. We are not hugging and kissing but we are standing pretty close. It's the same with everyone at my work - we wash hands regularly and don't sit too close, but often stand close together.
We did in the beginning of lockdown until probably the end of May/beginning of June.
YABU - I am sticking to 2m
YANBU - I am not sticking to 2m

Not for a long time. Don't know anyone except my dad (good. he's 77) who is.

YABU.

Of course I’m sticking to it because I’m not a selfish arse.

I'm socially distancing but would be lying if I said I am a full 2m apart from friends who I have met up with for a cuppa or a walk at all times in the past couple of weeks (since the rules have relaxed a little)

Realistically I'm probably doing somewhere between 1 and 2 metres

I haven't been inside anyone's house or vice versa nor touched anyone so the risk of infection spread is very low

No. I hugged my mum last week as I hadn't seen her since January. So did my children. I try and avoid people in the supermarket but most seem to think a mask worn on their chin makes them invincible. My Yr 6 DD will be back at school on Monday in her bubble of 12 people.

Like a PP, I think if protests numbering thousands with no social distancing can be allowed, then all bets are off. Also, I'm not jumping in the road or getting muddy shoes for anyone anymore.

Full disclosure: no risk factors in my household or any of those we've been in contact with. Our area has one of the lowest transmission and death rates in the country.

Yes I have been although it's hard sometimes in the school run, but that's walking past quickly and hard in the supermarket isles.

No I'm not, generally more like a metre because two metres usually requires walking in the road or bushes.

When I think it matters (static situations) yes. When I'm walking around, no, although if it's easy to do I will.

Nope, I work in a small retail pharmacy and its impossible to stay 2m apart from other staff and customers, when im shopping etc I do keep a distance, but its seldom 2mtrs,shops just dont have the space

I am whenever it is possible. Sometimes it isn't.

For instance today, I was walking along a fairly narrow path with my young son. When people were coming the other way we were walking single file. To have a distance of 2m would have involved going into a busy road which I wasn't prepared to do with my son.

Everyone seemed fine with it.

Not sticking to it here either. I walk on a canal towpath every day, and it is 1m to 2m wide at different points, so if I happen to meet someone on a narrow
bit its either walk right past them or go for a swim! My MiL lives next door, so we are now in a bubble, but didn't always stick to 2m with her either.

Saying that, we are having online shopping, so aren't actually going anywhere except for walks. And chances of transmission outdoors are negligible anyway so I'm not worrying about it. Had a friend over for the first time today for a walk and a cuppa in the garden. We probably stayed at least 1m apart, most of the time, but definitely not 2m.

I'm sticking to it because I'd like myself and my children to stay as safe as possible.

I generally don't find it difficult to do. Someone being only 1 metre away would now feel uncomfortably close.

Yes, I am. Including at work.

Why wouldn’t you?

In Wales it’s illegal for employers not to ensure that social distancing can be maintained.

When queuing and being static, 2m.

Walking around it's probably closer to 1m which is natural anyway. The bushes have grown a lot and the roads are much busier so a 2m berth is less practical and safe than it was at the peak of the epidemic anyway. I'd far rather take the miniscule risk of contamination by fleeting near contact than the significant risk of faceplanting a car windscreen.

I can't be fussed with crowds and queues and favour quiter places where I can just get on with my business so social distancing is not a big issue much of the time anyway.

Not much socislising happening because family and friends are inaccessible through being too distant, too busy or very strict that 2 adults + 2 children x2 = too many. So my social life has barely changed since March/ April anyway despite having zero additional risks.

People are still doing the walk around each other on pavements here - one each side, stepping off curb if need be.

Shops let small number in and people wait apart outside.

The bigger impact is for businesses

Not really to be honest. I heard on the radio today that in my country you have one in a million chance right now of catching it outside of certain settings like care homes, hospitals etc so the odds seem in my favour.

Yes we are and thankfully the people we will potentially see in the near future are.
I don't understand why people wouldn't.

Viral droplet transmission has been shown to project up to 10m. So 2m won’t necessarily protect you, but you will be exposed to a lower density of virions than 1m. So you do have less chance of contract the virus at 2m compared to 1. If you don’t care about contracting it then it doesn’t matter what distance you choose.

Yes. The idiots in the small local supermarkets who go the wrong way down a carefully marked out aisle and then push past really piss me off.

No but then I work in a school so I can't if I am to take care of the children and teach them.

And it will make a difference to R number. That’s basic concepts in transmission. I’m not sure what makes you think you are qualified to say it won’t? Just because you and your friends aren’t sticking to the rules doesn’t mean that others aren’t.

It must be impossible in a school. The teachers I know can't do it in school but they religiously stick to it outside of school.
