To eat frozen fruit straight from the bag?

During Covid I've been buying frozen berries and then throwing them on top of my hot porridge in the morning! Delish!

But I've been told they can make me very ill unless they are cooked!

Is this right? AIBU to eat my berries straight from the freezer?!

I think best practice is probably to wash/rinse them?

Frozen raspberries are a favourite pudding at ours!

What a load of shite. 😂😂😂

I sometimes freeze grapes to eat as a delicious frozen snack. Although I do wash them first.
Never heard about having to cook fruit tbh. They would be way less convenient than tinned fruit if that’s the case which I’m not convinced of.

I've never, ever heard of them requiring cooking before use... Most people use them for smoothies nowadays anyway! I'm sure it's fine OP.

I always add frozen raspberries to my porridge and I was totally obsessed when pregnant... we also eat them straight from the bag. Never heard of any issues 🤷‍♀️

I had never heard of this and we all have them in smoothies / straight from the bag here. I don't see much harm in washing them from now on though.

I’m not in the U.K., but I’ve seen the same advice there. Our food safety authority puts out an advisory every year about this

That is an interesting dilemma, does boiling the fruit destroy the Vitamin C content?

So...the ones which have UK as country of origin are ok to eat from the packet? The ones I have (Waitrose own brand cheapies) say country of origin UK online and packed in the UK on the packet.

So strange that I'd never heard of this! I'm weirdly invested in this now! Lockdown has clearly gotten to me Wink.
