This week my crown fell out.Tried to get help and have to ring back next week.It has highlighted to me I only have one lower back tooth.I could cry.I have nightmares about my teeth falling out.
I was born prematurely and given meds that dm was warned could affect my teeth. As a younger adult I suffered a couple of spells of anorexia which I'm sure didn't help.As a child I had a manual toothbrush and several fillings .Parents didn't buy sweets or biscuits but I did get sweets with money I had.
Fast forward to my mid 50s.Always visited my dentist and I'm obsessive with cleaning my teeth she always comments how well.A recent electric toothbrush and sweetener for 15 years.
I 've seen dm get false teeth and not use them!.I've considered implants which I know are expensive. Please tell me your positive stories and give me hope
.Also to make matters worse dh has never lost a tooth eats lots of sweets and hardly brushes his teeth at night!!He is 60.

I have 3 implants and I don't think I can add much to what has already been said here. They are completely fine, never given me any problems. You do have to clean around them properly and I was told that they don't last forever, around 20 years I think?
Also, sometimes you need to have the area around them build up if you don't have enough bone in your jaw. Ask about this because they use bone from cadavers (!) or there is a vegan option to build up the area around your jaw if it's deemed necessary.

brilliant thank you all for the replies.☺

I had implants and then Zircon crowns. I got them done in Budapest which is actually ahead when it comes dental implants.
They are very natural looking ( which is because the ceramist was skilled).
They are lovely

BertieDrapper · 20/06/2020 13:39

I had a crown at the front, I say had because just before Easter it broke!
So I've had a missing front tooth since then! Still can't get an appointment for it to be sorted so I have this weird tooth kit thing for when I go out, but I can't eat with it in and it's always slipping! Nightmare really.

I will probably have to have an implant to replace it as the original tooth has completely snapped. I'm dreading how much it will cost!
Only had the crown for a year!

My husband has 11 (congenital problem) between 2007-10. No issues, aside from the gums are a little darker around them than natural teeth.
Much more affordable as returned to our home country for the work, which was of a high standard with German import implants

Boopear · 20/06/2020 14:06

I've got 2 adjacent implants. I've had them for 20 years and they are still going strong. They were done by Dr Mehran Sanei who is now at 75 Harley Street. No idea what they would cost now (relatively new procedure at the time - about 1K a tooth I seem to remember?) but he really is very good indeed.

FlyingLoo · 20/06/2020 14:56

Hi, can I hi jack the thread for a quick question please? Those of you who have had implants do u have them checked every year? I have one and the dentist keeps messaging me for check up every year, i went once and it was nearly £50 for 2 minutes.....so am kinda reluctant

johnstownflood · 20/06/2020 16:20

@FlyingLoo We do have an annual checkup but they check all our teeth as well as the implants so its pretty much like the normal check up you would have. We have a scale and polish at the same time.

FlyingLoo · 20/06/2020 17:18

@johnstownflood thanks for replying. The private dentist where I had my implant done don’t accept NHS patients so I also have a NHS dentist and have 6 monthly checkups there, which is why I’m reluctant to pay for the implant check up separately.

@johnstownflood

I would love to have details of your dentist in Budapest.

johnstownflood · 30/01/2021 21:08

They are smilesavershungary.co.uk and have a clinic at 71 Grays Inn Road, Holborn, London. We went for our annual check up in London last week , ten years since we had the work done and still very happy.

I would like implants but can't because I have trigeminal neuralgia ( horrendoesly painful facial nerve problem) and lost two back teeth before it was correctly diagnosed.

I have a valplast flexidenture instead..it's tiny..about half an inch long and simply slots in the gap..you can't tell at all. Still not cheap (about £800 ) but comfy and no risks to my other teeth or facial nerve.

Just mentioning it because it's not a well known option, but if you can't afford the implant route, or like me can't risk it/don't want to, they are fab!

bumblingbovine49 · 31/01/2021 13:27

My sister has had two implants and is planning another one. They are expensive but they work well. She also has a couple of crowns

She says she won't lose her teeth and has really prioritised it

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 31/01/2021 13:29

I've had 2 implants. Cost was £4500. Had mine a while and they are absolutely fine. A bit of work involved getting them fitted, but worth it I would say.

MatildaTheCat · 31/01/2021 13:38

When I lost a premolar I was very conscious of the gap and wanted an implant straight away but had to wait until the bone was strong enough. During that time I had a very small denture which was very comfortable.

It may well be worth considering a partial denture as an option even if it is an interim measure. Implants take a long time and the denture would help retain your facial structure, improve your self confidence and might turn out to be a good solution for you longer term.

Good luck.

idloveapie · 31/01/2021 13:50

Do these implants get done under sedation or what? I can't bear even the dentist touching my teeth!

But I've got really awful front teeth which ruin my confidence and I want to get them fixed. I've saved up but put it off for years.

malovitt · 31/01/2021 14:02

I had an implant in central London last week and am a shockingly nervous patient. But I surprised myself. The dentist supplied a Valium prescription for me so I genuinely didn't feel anything. If I can do it , you can!

Hfox · 25/05/2021 15:44

Can you pleasee tell me where from? I paid £2000 for mine and my implant broke.. Need to get another one done now :(

MissConductUS · 25/05/2021 15:52

I have implants and I love them. Properly done it's just like having natural teeth.

TPMG · 07/07/2021 21:26

Hi. I'm in the northwest and I would love to know who you recommend and any other useful info x.

didireallysaythat · 07/07/2021 21:37

I had two put in last year. No regrets. The cost varies on size, difficulty etcetc. I was really impressed by the dental surgeon, follow up texts in the evening to see how I was etc.

Ooh, any chance you could photo it (out of mouth)? My dentist has suggested this but I can't find many photos online.

How realistic is the 'gum' part (my missing tooth is a canine so would be visible when smiling), do you wear it all the time, what's the cleaning process, is it comfortable etc? Thank you!

Cryalot2 · 07/07/2021 22:12

I had to get a plate last year. I chipped a tooth near the front and my previous dentist was to awful to go to. The chip broke so had to do something. I found an excellent new dentist who is reasonable to pay.
Had a plate fitted to see how it would go.
It's only a partial plate as only have a couple of very neat teeth on it.
I wear it about 14 hours daily and it looks real
I have nothing bad to say about mine. I dreaded it but honestly am happy with it.

Cissyandflora · 07/07/2021 22:17

I have 6 implants. Try not to feel bad op and don’t worry about sweets. My problem was nothing to do with sweets or dental hygiene. Don’t blame yourself but make a plan to move forward is my advice. It’s expensive and worth it. You’re worth it.
