To relish the prospect of wfh forever?

Pre-pandemic my department all worked from home 2 days a week and from the office for the other 3. It now appears they are going to downsize the office and we will likely work from home permanently, coming in only if we have a large meeting to attend.

AIBU to be thrilled at this prospect?? The thought of never having to deal with going into the office again has me salivating. No commute, no awkward chit chat at the water cooler, no eating lunch from a Tupperware, no getting dressed when you don't feel like it, no worrying who can hear you shitting in the toilets(!!). Always being home for parcel deliveries, to keep the dog company, when the kids are sick and need to stay home. BRING IT ON. Who's with me?

The company my dh works for is considering largely working from home with some office days: everyone has managed wfh with ease during lockdown and the boss, who has been able to take on the majority of childcare from his wife who cannot wfh, has realised how much easier it is. Before this they already had a staggered start and finish time. They stopped working in the office the week before lockdown to trial it and dh got up early to log on and work at 7am. Then did the school run. Back for 9 to carry on. Pick the children up from school. Sit them down to do their homework Next to him while he Worked some more. Made tea. Then he carried on after that.

This would be great Long term because it would save us so much money on wrap around child care.

Permanent WFH here now as well slightly challenging at the moment, but when the DC are back at school it will be bliss! Agree with all the reasons mentioned, no commute, proper food, my own bathroom, the dog, deliveries etc etc etc! I used to WFH 2 days per week in 'the time before' and I loved it! I'm very social and a chat on the school run and a few WhatsApps throughout the day does me just fine!

I’m happy to do one or two days WFH per week.

My job requires security clearance and for me to be a British citizen so I’m not worried about it being outsourced abroad.

I enjoy wfh. Previosuly we've been able to do it for 1-3 day/week. I would not be excited to wfh more permanently unless we change our rules. At the office we can decide our own hours and just get work done. At home we have to do a daily report on out activities and we can't work no more or no less than 7h 30min.

DD starts nursery next week and then it will be bliss. Like pp I went straight from maternity into WFH but without the nursery part; it's been intense. But with her taken care of and no need to worry about a horrendous rushed commute across London? WFH forever, please.

It does help that we have a box room to store DP's mountains of wires and hard drives and junk, and a big enough master bedroom for my elegantly streamlined workspace. I think we'll both get a little sick of each other without the baby for company but we'll be staggering hours to give her shorter days, and the money saved on transport is another boon.

My job is a FTC though; dreading the thought of finding another job with its stupid "come to the office" demands.
