To not risk drinking any alcohol even before I can find out if I’m pregnant?

Trying for a baby and would be due on my period in a week so next Friday. So if I was pregnant right now, it would be very early on.

A friends having a BBQ so we’re going (socially distancing of course) and she asked what I’d like to drink so I explained the situation and I’ll stick to soft drinks and she made a joke that I was being totally OTT as I may not even be pregnant yet.

She said a couple of glasses a wine will be fine. I see her point but wanted other opinions as to whether I’m being OTT?

It took us years to conceive, during that time, I only drank during the heavy days of my period.

Why do both need to abstain from alcohol if trying to conceive? Is that backed up with any medical evidence of something you've come up with yourself?

Alcohol decreases the likelihood of conception. I thought that was common knowledge.

It can alter sperm count, size, shape, and motility. Lowers testosterone levels, follicle stimulating hormone, and luteinizing hormone, and raising estrogen levels, which reduce sperm production.

I conceived our baby aged 40, nearly 41 (DH was 45) during a December of heavy pre-Christmas drinking where I was drunk 10 nights running. We only had sex twice and weren’t actively TTC (mainly because we thought we were too old) although were weren’t using any contraception either.

I was a bit anxious but the consultant told me not to be ridiculous.
They advocate being fit and well and to lead a heathy lifestyle if actively TTC, especially if there is unexplained infertility. Smoking crack cocaine is frowned upon but you are allowed to have a life and live a little.

Well it probably can't hurt but I always find it weird when other people judge you for not drinking. I mean, nobody would give a shit if I refuse to drink orange juice, so why is alcohol so special that you need to be manipulated to drink it? Why on earth do other people think that their opinion needs to be listened to?
