Would you go?
I'm there on Monday for a filling
I'm undecided

It’s weighing up the risks and the benefits. I actually think you’d be more at risk in a shop than visiting a dentist who will have extremely high hygiene standards and will be wearing ppe

GeraldTippett · 19/06/2020 16:03

I went today as I managed to break a tooth last night. It felt very clean and very safe. I was asked to use hand sanitiser in arrival, the nurse and dentist were head to toe in ppe and I was careful not to touch anything unnecessarily. Have to go back next week and have no qualms about it

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 19/06/2020 16:04

Thought this was a thread about Marathon Man...

simdd · 19/06/2020 16:05

The receptionist said to arrive and knock.
They will take my temperature and il be allowed entry.
I don't know why it's making me so nervous.

I've been , it was fine. I understand they can't drill , I had a temporary filing.

StrawberryRaven · 19/06/2020 16:08

I went the other day and they have pretty much every possible safety measure in place.

I had a screening call the day before, had to wait to be called in from my car, temp check before entering the building followed by hand sanitiser, handbag left in a box outside the consultation room, hand washing with soap and water before getting in the chair, and all dental staff in full PPE.

Short of wearing hazmat suits I'm not sure there is anything more they could have done to make it safer!

Mary46 · 19/06/2020 16:38

Had wisdom tooth out but temp was rechecked as 37. Its very strict. Glad its done

millymollymoomoo · 19/06/2020 17:08

Less likely to catch anything now than at Christmas
I have no concerns about going at all

5foot5 · 19/06/2020 17:13

I understand they can't drill

I was due the first part of an implant in April which was obviously postponed. I guess if they can't drill then probably still no chance of my implant going ahead

ACautionaryTale · 19/06/2020 17:15

Not sure why the obsession about temp checking.

I had it and for the first 7 days of coughing, breathlessness and anosmia I had a temp of 35.8

I only got the high temperature on days 8 and 9 when it soared to 49 degrees

I’d have been missed for the first week if they were relying on temp

P.s I though the coughing initially was due to acid reflux and which causes me to cough anyway. It was only when the anosmia set in that I realised it was covid

Mrsmorton · 19/06/2020 17:19

Safe for who? You or your dentist? Probably safer for you.

If you're worried though, save yourself the drama and cancel.

ErickBroch · 19/06/2020 17:21

Yes. Full PPE. Distancing everywhere. Temperature check. Sanitising constantly. You follow a LOT of rules. It is the most hygienic place I have since lockdown started. They are taking no risks.

ErickBroch · 19/06/2020 17:22

If you have been outside your house at any other time since March then I would guarantee it was significantly more risky than going to your dentist. Not sure why you are so nervous?

morelikeaclubsandwich · 19/06/2020 17:24

I've been to the hygienist. It was fine. She was dressed nearly head to toe in plastic. Will be horrible for them midsummer. My gums are v grateful.
Dentists are used to bring v careful about hygiene

hula008 · 19/06/2020 17:28

This.
FluffyKittensinabasket · 19/06/2020 17:39

I think I have a dodgy filling but it’s not urgent so I’ll let others be treated first as it doesn’t hurt. I wouldn’t feel at all scared though going!

TooSadToSay · 19/06/2020 17:40

God you're so lucky to be able to go! I need a filling replaced and sore gums attending to. I'd give my right arm to be able to get there, I've had so many problems since March :(((((

Chrisinthemorning · 19/06/2020 17:41

Safer than the supermarket.
Safer than most places- the cleaning, fallow and PPE requirements aren’t quite rightly really high.

Chrisinthemorning · 19/06/2020 17:42

Are!

KillingOksana · 19/06/2020 17:46

I had normal surgery a few weeks back at a large hospital that had COVID patients.

I felt far far safer there than in my local shop.

Medical professionals don't want to risk catching COVID themselves and so they are scrupulous about making sure that they keep you and themselves safe.

Whilst in hospital there was, understandably, no social distancing as they had to give care.

Twizbe · 19/06/2020 17:52

Perfectly fine. I went on Monday to have my brace adjusted.

Heatherjayne1972 · 19/06/2020 17:56

Dentist surgeries have always been one of the cleanest most hygienic places
Don’t forget we see people with all sorts of illnesses, the patients don’t always know they’ve got ( hiv for eg) - our high standards allow for no cross contamination between patients

The standards are always high and now even higher

So yes come along We might look different and it might be a slightly different experience
But it’s safe

GingerFigs · 19/06/2020 18:19

@InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud lol GrinI hated going to the dentist as a child and that film only served to reinforce it Grin

oralengineer · 19/06/2020 20:05

Extremely safe for the patient, pretty hazardous for the dentist. We will only be able to do fillings wearing FFP3 for the forceable future. I have just passed my mask fit test and will be starting to do fillings again just as the temps are forecast to hit the low 30s. With no aircon allowed I’m really looking forward to it!
