Holiday situation

I had a holiday booked for September but I have fallen out with the person who I was suppose to be going with, we have booked separately but I am unable to go now. I have paid £600 which I accept I have lost now but I am due to pay £450 on the 21st, obviously as I’m not going I don’t want to pay anymore money into it. I’m going to sound really clueless as I haven’t been on holiday in 10 years so what is the best thing to do now, They can’t take the rest from my account can they? It’s not a DD I was just meant to be paying it off. Any advice?

No you don't generally have to pay I don't think but might depend on the contract.
Cancel and blame the pandemic?
Do you have insurance?
Would any one else go with you?

Is it a package holiday through a travel agent? You should contact whoever you booked with and inform them you're cancelling as a first step anyway. They can't take anymore of your money

I can’t go at all now as I have 4 children and can’t manage them on holiday alone, no one else can come. It was booked with tui.

You may find they are willing to move it for you to next year if that would be of interest to you? That way you wouldn’t lose your money.

AryaStarkWolf · 19/06/2020 14:28

have you contacted tui and told them you were cancelling? also have you read the agreement you would have been sent by them when you booked to see what their cancellation terms are?, pretty sure they can't take anymore of your money, you will most likely lose what you've paid but you could also be entitled to a portion back

PumpkinP · 19/06/2020 14:29

I thought about moving it but like I said 4 children abroad would be too much on my own (ages 9 and under)

You need to get in touch with Tui. When you book a package holiday you enter into a contract and if you don't pay you will be in breach of it. Were you the one who booked it or the other person?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/06/2020 14:32

Oh I've just seen you booked separately. You need to contact them before the 21st to cancel, you can't just not pay or you will get in trouble.

PumpkinP · 19/06/2020 14:32

We both have separate bookings

Did you book online or in store? If you booked online you can download the app and cancel it yourself, it's really easy.

DuckyMcDuck · 19/06/2020 14:37

Do you think you maybe able to find someone to come with you next year? You may have to pay an admin fee, but I'm sure you could change the name on the booking.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/06/2020 14:40

Also if the holiday is in September you won't lose £600, if you cancel at this stage you will only lose whatever you paid as a deposit and you will get the rest refunded.

Cfmcg900 · 19/06/2020 17:15

Check your booking terms. You may be lucky and will only forfeit deposit this stage and may be due something back.

Do it in advance of the DD being taken if possible, as you may lose refund rights if you miss payments.

Of course you don’t have to pay any more. By breaching the contract you (obviously) won’t get the holiday, you're not expected to pay full cost and also not go.

PumpkinP · 19/06/2020 17:38

Argh annoying I booked using a low despoil offer which was £150 but full deposit £600 so I will lose all of the £600 sadly!
