Wingless pads

Meredithgrey1 · 19/06/2020 09:10

DH went to the shop this morning and I asked him to get me some pads. He got the right ones (by brand and flow) but got the kind without wings.

I know, since they make them, there must be a market for them. But without wings feels less secure to me, they move more, they leak more (especially at night).

Am I using them wrong? Is there a benefit I'm not seeing? Do they just not leak for some people? Women who use wingless pads, please enlighten me!

@EL8888

I’ve never understood the point of the ones with no wings?
Er - they stick to your knickers and absorb menstrual flow?
Tootletum · 19/06/2020 11:34

Also why is it that the Always Ines always have a slight rustle of plastic. The Bodyform ones are so much better in general.

SirVixofVixHall · 19/06/2020 11:35

I use wingless. I only used wings when I had some episodes of flooding, the rest of the time the wingless ones have been absolutely fine. I find the wings irritating and hard to get off.

I've recently switched to a set of reusable pads and they are soooo much nicer than disposables in my opiniom. They have wings but they popper under your pants so no irritation from them sticking to your thighs. No worry about them being scented. Fine for an average flow I'd say, I have night ones as well for heavier times. No good if you have super heavy periods, but fine for most people I expect. And they're dead easy to clean, no stains or smells. Strongly recommend!

I wear boyshort type underwear during my period so wings are no good, if you child the wings outsider the gussett it rumples up the legs. I mainly use them in conjunction with tampons though other than at night, and then I wear normal knickers and winged pads

SirVixofVixHall · 19/06/2020 11:59

My washable pads were better than anything else at dealing with peri-meno flooding.

Used to find wings uncomfortable but I liked Claire Raynor ( not sure how to spell her name but she used to advertise them).

notalwaysalondoner · 19/06/2020 12:07

I agree - they don’t stay in place, bunch up, way way more risk of leaks around the side. But this thread clearly shows some ladies feel otherwise!

Cadent · 19/06/2020 12:18

YANBU. It’s especially irritating when the heavy night pads are wingless. What’s the point?!

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 19/06/2020 12:25

I hate wings and cut them off when I can’t find wingless ones - I have super sensitive skin and the extra adhesive gives me contact dermatitis. If the wing gets crumpled (cycling) I get a rash on.my outer labia. Excruciatingly painful!

Iggi999 · 19/06/2020 12:26

Clearly wings are marmite

AryaStarkWolf · 19/06/2020 12:27

The ones with wings turn changing a pad into a war. I hate them, they stick to everything
Grin
When they fold over on themselves, so fucking irritating

Laiste · 19/06/2020 12:43

Wingless here. Given the choice.

They either don't stick or reach round and touch each other in an unbreakable bond so you're straining to yank the sodding pad off without tearing the gusset out of your knickers.

Or sometimes they stick to your flaps.

On my heaviest days i like a big ol' maternity pad. A big soft comforting mattress in your drawers and nice and long. Never leaks. Seems to stay in place for me.

whiplashy · 19/06/2020 12:46

Much prefer wingless. Nice thick single mattress style bodyform

Pinkdelight3 · 19/06/2020 12:48

Another wing-hater here. They don't work and are just extra sticky faff. Wingless works fine for me.

passthemustard · 19/06/2020 12:56

I had a nightmare about the ones with wings last night. I was bleeding heavily (in my dream) and had to put this pad on, it was massive and really sticky and the wings were huge and it all got stuck together and I couldn't use it and I was stuck on the toilet bleeding.

Wings are unnecessary and a waste of plastic. And I'm someone who bleeds heavily! Can't leave the house for 2 days a month kind of thing.

omg this is hilariously true also Grin

OP, you shoulda put a vote on this thread, I’m genuinely curious now as to which is the more popular!

SweetPetrichor · 19/06/2020 13:12

I hate winged disposable pads - they stick to everything but what you want them to stick to...they irritate the skin...and I swear the wick blood out and make them more likely to leak. Wingless all the way!

But I don't mind wings on reusable pads. No sticky stuff to pull at hairs and less irritating in general. I do only use reusable in the cooler weather though cause I find them too hot for peak summer!

Sunshineandflipflops · 19/06/2020 13:12

I vert rarely use pads (mooncup all the way) but I don't find the wingless ones stay secure enough, particularly at night.

MadisonAvenue · 19/06/2020 13:17

I much prefer wingless but they’re hard to find.

TheOrigBrave · 19/06/2020 13:45

I use a mooncup during the day and back that up with an overnight, wingless pad for the first couple of nights. I use the nice, soft ones and with a tighter pair of pants find it doesn't move at night.

When I've needed to use pads in the day I try and use wingless as I get in a right pickle with the sticky and my hair. Ouch.

MinnieJackson · 20/06/2020 09:20

I hate wings! The pain of the caught pubes! Kotex maxi for me all the way!

Whatthehay · 20/06/2020 09:56

I’m confuse by the all ‘it gets stuck to my hair’ answers. Who has pubes anymore anyway?
