Last night my mother was called into her neighbours flat in an emergency, my mum assessed the situation (neighbour was out cold) and called for an ambulance.

This morning she was told the neighbour had Coronavirus and she prepared to isolate while awaiting confirmation. The neighbour is now home with a ‘mild’ case showing on their chest but the swabs have come back negative. She will still be isolating but what is the risk under those circumstances? Mum has several health issues including scarring of her lungs and she acted on instinct last night but will be in trouble if she does have it, she’s just a bit unsure because of the negative swabs.

They said she had covid but her tests showed she doesn't? I would say your mums risk of catching it from someone who doesn't have it is rather minimal.

The tests give a lot of false negatives, apparently, so if the symptoms are covid it’s best to behave as though it is. There’s not much your mum can do except be ready to call for medical help if she gets symptoms.

They said it was clear on the x rays that it was in her chest. Mum was just confused because after that was determined the swabs came back negative. She doesn’t want to go wandering about as normal but nor does she want to fully self isolate at this point if she doesn’t need to.

The guidelines state she should self isolate
