To ask about ikea

Has anyone been to ikea since it reopened? If so how was it. Was it well organised or a free for all?
We have moved into a new house which has no storage whatsoever and wanted to get some bits before lockdown but it didn't happen. We know exactly what we want but delivery is £40 if we order online!
We haven't been out once since lockdown not even to the supermarket so we are a bit worried about going!

I'm interested to know too. There's a few things I need for the DC's bedrooms but the Click & Collect option was a 150 mile round trip rather than at my local store!

My DH works there. It seems to be very well organised from what he tells me.

Hand sanitiser dispensers everywhere
Trebled up on the cleaning
Limited numbers allowed in at any one time
Social distancing Marshall's throughout the store to try to stop bottlenecks and people congregating
Closing an hour later than stated to allow time for the last customers to move through safely.

The only thing I would say is that they are very very busy and struggling to keep up with stock levels so your not guaranteed to get what you want once you get in. It would be better in my opinion to order for delivery even though the delivery is expensive.

I went to Ikea Warrington. Very well organised, toilets open as was the takeaway food kiosk. One way system, good social distancing. Not very busy.

implantsandaDyson · 17/06/2020 15:28

My husband has been twice. He's been happy enough to go, no mad queues, I think he waited about 10 mins to go in. Social distancing was adhered to. There was a bit of a queue at the tills, a few things showed as being in stock on the website but weren't. Overall it was ok, no fuss at all. Although IKEA is his happy place and he's been out at work all through so he wasn't nervy or anxious to begin with.

BlueCowWonders · 17/06/2020 15:29

Ikea have started click n collect - I've just had an email about it
Might be easier/ cheaper if you know exactly what you need.

Hingeandbracket · 17/06/2020 15:32

Hang on - you're saying people visit IKEA by choice?

I thought going there was part some kind of community service punishment for offenders.

dobbyssoc · 17/06/2020 15:49

@Hingeandbracket I have to say I do love a ikea trip Grin

Thanks all.

We went to Exeter on Sunday, got there 10 mins before opening, queued for an hour but once in you would have thought you had the shop to yourself. It was well organised, calm and quiet with plenty of space to browse without anyone huffing that you were in their way!
My only complaint was that there was no pick and mix, but tbh I wasn’t expecting there to be any, just had a small nugget of hope as it’s a long drive home......

Redolent · 17/06/2020 16:20

Do you know if young children are allowed (if they sit on the trolley)?

C152H · 17/06/2020 16:26

Ikea Croydon was almost empty last week (about 11am, mid week). No queues at all to get in, quick and easy to get everything we needed and short queue (much shorter than pre-lockdown queues!) to pay.

C152H · 17/06/2020 16:30

Redolent - the Ikea website says you can bring your children, but should only being one another adult from the same household, if you need help. Also, they're only accepting card payments.

Babyshine2020 · 17/06/2020 16:47

It's the only shop I've been too since everywhere started opening, baby is on its way so we needed some bits!

I've been to the Warrington store (twice as something was out of stock!) once in a Wednesday and I just walked straight in, at some parts of the store I pilsner see anybody in front of me!

I've also been on a Saturday and it toon 16 minutes to get in and was half as busy as a normal Saturday and this was around 1pm!

I wouldn't worry about it at all.

mightybuzz · 17/06/2020 16:53

I went - we arrived 30 min before it opened and that was about right; we only had a few people ahead of us in the queue and could basically go right in. I took my DS with me (2) and other people had kids with them. It was really quiet inside. You're allowed in the home-y bits and on the furniture as long as it's only 1 family at a time.

Chimpfield · 17/06/2020 16:58

Just got back from Milton Keynes Ikea.
Queued for about 30 mins Not too many people inside. Well organised. Really enjoyed it!
