the more I hear the name the more I get to like it.

my nephew (8) is called Archibald. I think he's the only one in his school.

I was an early 70,s baby @CecilyP There were lots of Davids,Johns Marks,Andrews etc for Boys and Sarah,sRachels,Rebecca's Anne,s etc for girls were these names popular in Victorian times?

Boys names don't date the same way as girls, so those quoted were also popular in the 1950s (not so much Victorian times). Boys names to make a particular comeback were Benjamin, Daniel, Samuel and Thomas. Anne was going out or fashion but, as well as the other girls names quoted, Caroline, Charlotte and Emma had come back in the 1970s.

No but far too many previous snobbish comments around the name Archie on other posts on this website..[/quote]
If you have concerns over a probable nickname then you’ll have to consider if it’s enough to stop you using the longer name.

I know three Archibalds and I think it’s comeback began when Alfred, Arthur etc started to regain popularity. If you call your child Archibald he almost certainly won’t be alone in his school with the name and my concern is that it will be in vogue for a while and then become an old fashioned name again, so will define him for when he was born.

My son is an Archie but I don't like Archiebald - he's often mistakenly called Alfie though for some reason. I wonder if Alfies get called Archie a lot?

DysonFury · 17/06/2020 16:48

If Archibald makes a comeback then Harold may as well too. Though I've heard of a few baby Percy's born these last few years so there's no accounting for taste.
The Stanley revival is in full swing here.
