Neighbour is using our bin

Aibu that neighbour is using our bin
They used to recycle nothing now the odd bottle so always overflowing a week after collection
Our bins are stored around the back all together and my kids generally take bin bags out but I'm starting to wonder how we seem to have full bins every bin day despite us recycling lots and squishing our rubbish down and generally being quite careful .
Suddenly dawned on me that neighbours are sneaking the odd bag into ours
Now come bin day if mines not full I would have no problem them using and when we are away I have told them to use it if they dont mind putting it out bin day
I know it's only a bin but I pay to keep it clean I try not to put food waste in and last bin day couldn't get one of my own bin bags in

A developer has bought the house next to my elderly mum and used to regularly put cement bags, wall tiles and garden waste in her bins. She now puts them round the back until bin day and has put notes on them but the cheeky gits still do it after she puts them out. They've nearly finished so hopefully she wont have to keep moving them for much longer.

Alice's Restaurant for those that are too young to remember it (lucky sods).

Have a quiet word!

Same thing happened to me.

Because of coronavirus, our bin men are.now coming once a fortnight and I have a slightly bigger bin compared to everyone else. We use the recycling bin too but as a family of 6 it does get crammed pretty quickly. My son went out to lob in another bin bag on bin collecting day and said it was ram packed with old toys, girls toys and old handbags and shopping bags of places we dont go to. The thing was I wouldn't have minded if one, I had been asked and two, it was general rubbish. It was more like someone had a clear out and decided to use my bin. I asked my neighbour if it was her. She has a dd and so it makes sense it was her. Bi therefore are other families a bit further on that could have done it. She said she didn't to it and said she was watching us put the bins out. Thought that was a bit odd but I left it as that.
Since then, nothing. I find it rude for people to do that. Bin men have said they will take extra bin bags on the floor. But only a maximum of 3. I just can't wait for the bin days to return back to normal. It drives me nuts having to put binbags behind the shed. Luckily, foxes can't get into my shed plot otherwise it would be a disaster.

I'd say something fini were you. Obviously not rudely but just to ask and say not to do it again as we are struggling already to fit our rubbish in.

My other neighbour also decided to chuck stuff in my bin a while ago. My eldest boy had to go out and take it all out and out it in her bin. Bit of a grimy job as it was all at the bottom. It was all cat stuff and we dont have cats as I am allergic and couldn't touch any of it to help my son. Really rude people do that. . . .

The OP definitely said that she has told them before that they can use the bin, so I just wondered if they thought that she didn’t mind them using it whenever. Maybe a conversation with them to clear things up would be helpful before getting a bin lock.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 18/06/2020 02:38

@PopsicleHustler you’re collection won’t resume weekly I bet. Ours was fortnightly and it’s now permanently 3 weekly to save the council money.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 18/06/2020 02:45

@BlankTimes if ours bibs are open or even propped open by rubbish the crowd and gulls rip the bags open and make a right helluva mess. Not worth it ad they ignore the maggots.

strugglingwithdeciding · 18/06/2020 03:09

Thanks for the gravity bin lock advice I will look up
Just to clarify I do have a Dh but he also cleans although not the bin
I have only when away said they could use the bins as we aren't there so don't need them and we fill it ourselves most weeks ,which they know so using it means we struggle and if it was on bin day and not full I wouldn't mind
Before now they have balanced bin bags on my bin and I have moved them back next to his as sometimes bin men refuse to take bin if extra bags or slightly open
What's annoying is if they attempted to recycle a bit they probably wouldn't have an overflowing bin
Out bins are collected fornighly here soon to go to three weeks , but recycling and food waste is weekly

Bin lock!!!!

strugglingwithdeciding · 18/06/2020 03:16

Def getting a bin lock especially when we go to 3 weekly prob also a peg for my nose as there bins stink in hot weather as the kids don't shut and are right by back garden in shared alleyway / access they also use this area to dump unwanted household items like fridges etc prob should count myself lucky they don't try to sneak some of these items in too

Put your rubbish to one side then before early hours on bin day hide in it. Imagine their surprise when you jump out at them! (I’m not serious but would be fun)

Who the fuck is Alice?

Is this about the song or bins or both? Have I missed something?
Mothership4two · 18/06/2020 04:43

@Thepigeonsarecoming

Song lyric

TehBewilderness · 18/06/2020 04:50

How can you not have heard of Alice's Restaurant and getting arrested because the cop found the letter with their name on it at the bottom of the pile of garbage?
How?
It's because you don't celebrate Thanksgiving, isn't it?
We play Alice's Restaurant on Thanksgiving ever year. It is a weird USian tradition.

TheTeenageYears · 18/06/2020 06:47

Order some clear bin bags from Amazon and only use those to put your rubbish in the outside bin. It will make it immediately obvious to you and them (after a few weeks) if they are adding rubbish to your bin. You will know for sure and it's easier to speak to them about it when you have proof of how often they do it.

strugglingwithdeciding · 18/06/2020 14:32

@TheTeenageYears that's a good idea as like you say I need to have some proof , u think I have some clear bags as well
