I know how I am going to end my days. This is going to be the hill that I die on.

Logging in drives me insane. It literally makes me incandescent with rage. Angry Maybe it is just my household. My DH likes technology with everything. I reckon I spend a good proportion of my life "logging in".

Here is a real example. I want to listen to the radio. I have to:

Login to the computer with password
Get BBC Radio up
Asked for login and password
Pull up 1Password which also involves logging in.
Copy and paste login
Copy and paste password.
Go into drop down box and select speakers I want radio to come out with.

This process takes about 3 minutes. If I then talk away from the computer for more than a minute I then have to log in again.

Repeat process if I want to watch a movie on Netflix or iTunes and other stuff with accept cookies, blah blah blah.......

What happened to - go over to radio, turn knob on, perhaps move knob a bit to get to different frequency, music comes out?

Honestly, this is the hill I am going to die on.

Our washing machine can be controlled by my DHs phone. So I have to load it and put in the detergent but he can then turn it on. AND it tells him when it's finished. Then I unload it and hang the bloody stuff up. How technology has transformed our lives... Confused

Same here. Hence all my passwords are colourful expletives as that is all that's going through my mind when I create and then invariably have to reset them again and again....

I have a Samsung phone and I control the TV with that we don't have a TV aerial or sky dish its all streaming and a properly set up smart TV. All my phone passwords are saved under fingerprint recognition. Basically if I lose a thumb I'll be locked out from the world.

I was so frustrated with passwords we invested in a good smart TV and between that and my thumb I'm a lot more relaxed.

@Truthpact Thanks, I did used to have a similar system like that but it went out the window whenever a site asked me to change my password for some random reason. Usually happens on the spot when I'm in a rush. And then I promptly forget what the new one is. So have to keep doing forgot password and make up something else. So frustrating! Now I have a mish mash of crap and I need to find a system again arrgghh

God yes!

You read my mind OP. I was just thinking this today. Life is now a never ending series of log ins. My laptop, my subscriptions, - just to read the sodding news - my email accounts, VPN, Netflix, Amazon, Google, iPad, Forums, Web accounts, Microsoft, my work laptop - Two Fucking Factor Authentication, Egnyte login, Teams, Skype, Professional membership portals ...

It’s just soul destroying and then, the sodding cookies. On Every damn page! It’s now meaningless and irritating beyond belief. I was just recently thinking how great it was in the late 90s/early 2000’s, when you just logged into your email and that was it. You didnt even need a password on your PC or phone. You could find anything and everything online with hardly any advertising (except for AOL and Yahoo). There were no scrolling banners or autoplay videos. It was a joy and I’d spend hours on iVillage and msn.

The internet has been well and truly ruined and I’m not sure who’s to blame.

Starbuggy · 16/06/2020 21:29

Why don’t you just stay signed in to things like Netflix? It’s presumably in your home so not like any random person can access it.

I store most website passwords in my phone, it uses facial recognition or passcode to automatically input it. Obviously doesn’t apply to other devices but I do almost everything on my phone.

You can still watch tv just by turning it on, turn lights on with a switch, listen to the radio on an actual radio.

Your DH/you are choosing to complicate these things with extra technology, but I don’t think it’s worth this amount of stress!

Another vote for LastPass, makes it all so easy to log in.
