To buy first bra?

DD is 10.5 and in year 5 at school. This is going to sound really silly but I don’t know if she needs a bra. She currently wears crop tops and she has what I think are breast buds. Hard to describe...They look a bit like man boobs 🙈 more than nipples but not quite boobs!

Do you think it’s ok to get her a bra? I don’t want her to be bullied for having one or not having one! So difficult. She’s embarrassed by her growing chest so I don’t want to cause her any more embarrassment

I think there’s such a thing as a training bra (so kind of half crop top, half bra but soft and no underwriting). If you phone a lingerie dept in a department store, they should be able to advise.

Not the sports kind!

Matalan do ideal first bra type.. No padding or wire.

I would stick with the crop top style (and I do!)

Some are supportive enough for me and I am about 34 C although I have no real idea as I don't wear proper bras.

Crop tops sound enough for now, but take your cue from her, as I'm guessing it may vary from school to school whether most of them are into bras before they really need them.

Mine is year 9 and still wearing crop tops, but she's pretty impervious to "what other people wear" and doesn't like change. I only got her into the crop tops when uniform changed from polo shirts to proper shirts - I just told her it was compulsory to have something under the shirt. She still doesn't have enough to need a bra.

DD (age 10) has quite pronounced breasts now (poor thing) and I get her the crop top sports bra style (less tight than a sports bra) as she doesn't want a proper bra like I wear yet but does need support/coverage.

She did get comments at school about the breasts and pubic hair (shared changing for swimming) but nothing nasty and apparently most of her friends are wearing the same kind of thing despite being generally flat still. So it wasn't the bra that drew attention.

Thanks ladies, I’ll have a chat with her and see what she prefers. She’s very embarrassed about developing bless her - I remember it well!

Oh, it did!
Yes, DD is quite embarrassed about hers. I remember getting my first bra with my friend and her aunt when we went on holiday together as I was needing one at almost 11 and my mum never wore them so would have been hopeless at helping me!
It had underwire though, I'm hoping for DD to avoid that for a few years yet!
