To think she was out of line?

Went into a large shop today.
On entry to the shop you have to use the hand santizer from the bottle they have on the table.
The lady in front said it was okay as she had her own.
The security guard said no and she had to use that one.
So she kicks up a fuss saying it made no difference etc etc
It was the same thing.
Do you think she was being unreasonable?
The time she argued she could have just used the sanitizer and went around shopping.

Were they sanitising the sanitiser bottle between uses?

I can't use hand sanitiser due to severe hand eczema. Another reason why I won't be going to shops any time soon!

Maybe she didn’t want to touch the hand sanitiser that everyone else would have touched.

The guard should have let her use her own sanitiser in front of him.

What does it matter if she touches the bottle or if it’s sanitised after use, because after you touch the bottle you sanitize your hands,,,

Hmm I don't think she was unreasonable not to want to use it, but equally the store don't know whether the one she's brought with her is 70% alcohol.

I can actually see where she is coming from.
It's the same stuff so can't see what difference it makes.

What if she has allergies?

I have a condition that causes severe reactions and have to be very careful what products I use, I would have to refuse too and if they wouldn't allow me in when I have my own 70% alcohol sanitiser I would be pointing out straight away that they are treading a fine line in refusing to make reasonable adjustments!

It's no different to if they try turning away someone for not wearing a mask when they're medically exempt.

If she's got allergies she'll have to find an alternative place/way to shop. How are the shop staff meant to know if hers is effective?

Lots of work places and schools are currently using bar soap due to a lack of liquid soap. Also, members of the public don’t have different hands to members of a household.

The customer was within her rights to refuse to use the shop hand sanitiser.

The security guard was within his rights to refuse to admit her.

Shops can refuse to admit anyone they want as long as they aren't discriminating eg refusing entry on grounds of race, sex etc.
Nobody has an automatic right to be admitted to a shop or any other privately owned business.
