For a nanny who provides one to one childcare and does some other jobs around the house as and when possible when child is napping such as washing, making dinner and cleaning. TIA

Isn't the going rate for a nanny about 30k? Plus NI, pension etc.
Cash in hand much cheaper, but not legal.

speakout · 16/06/2020 17:56

Do nannies do housework and cook?

TitianaTitsling · 16/06/2020 17:58

What would be daily/weekly hours of work? Age of child likely to matter too,.

mama202 · 16/06/2020 18:01

I was wondering per hour rate. That's how we are paying at the moment. Nanny has now asked to be PAYE and for a pay rise. She wanted cash previously. We also have a baby but she only looks after the toddler

mama202 · 16/06/2020 18:02

Toddler is 2 and she works from 8.30 to 5.30 normally

We pay a little over £15 an hour

turnthebiglightoff · 16/06/2020 18:10

I've got a couple of nanny friends; in London I know of one on £42k and one on £37k. Both have their own car and expenses for lunch out etc.

Merryoldgoat · 16/06/2020 18:14

If you can’t work out a per hour rate from an annual salary I’d consider whether you should be an employer.

mrsm43s · 16/06/2020 18:14

I don't have a nanny, so possibly not qualified to answer, but cleaners in this neck of the woods (SE, not London) get paid £15+ an hour, so I'd think somewhat more than that.

mama202 · 16/06/2020 18:17

Whereabouts are you based hotstottie and what does your nanny do? Does she do any other jobs as well as childcare?

OP posts:
Mildmanneredmum · 16/06/2020 18:32

A quick and dirty (but surprisingly accurate) way of working out annual vs hourly pay is - double the hourly rate and call it thousands. Ie £20 per hour equals £40K per year. And the reverse.

mama202 · 16/06/2020 18:32

goat the hours are not set in stone, this is why we are working to an hourly rate

OP posts:
collywobble · 16/06/2020 18:38

Essex area depending on experience would be £12- £16 gross per hour .

@mama202

Whereabouts are you based hotstottie and what does your nanny do? Does she do any other jobs as well as childcare?
We’re near Cheshire. As well as the childcare our Nanny does housework, dc’s laundry, will cook dc’s dinner. In addition to her salary we also provide accommodation including all bills and the use of a car. So without those I would expect to be paying her a higher hourly rate than we do.
