I need some advice please.
We booked a uk holiday with hoseasons for late July in Dorset.
We only paid a 10% deposit, so about £100.
We need to pay the balance soon if we want to go. If we cancel we lose our deposit, (And we’d really like to go but only if we can swim.) We don’t really want to lose £100 but if we pay the balance, and they close all the pools I think they might not refund us and expect us to pay full price for a holiday without a pool.
If we don’t cancel, but don’t pay the balance we are apparently obliged to pay it anyway after the deadline (which is Monday).
Writing this down I think it’s obvious that I have to cancel and just lose the £100.
I know that lots of people have lost a lot more money on holidays, so I’m sorry if this is a bit trivial.

Ask them. Ring up or email and ask what their plan is re the pools, and ask them what their policy is re refunding if you pay in full and change your mind due to pools being shut, or if they will hold your booking without you paying the remainder of the deposit now. I've never heard of the company you mention, but I have a self-catering holiday booked for late July and the company isn't asking for the balance to be paid until the government announces whether or not holidays will be allowed.

If you ring and reach a satisfactory agreement over the phone, get them to email you to confirm so you have it in writing.

Thank you. The problem is there are so many people in the same situation and it’s impossible to get through on the phones. Apparently Hoseasons are not dealing with the problem very well.

Maybe look directly at the park website...they might have more information about the planned reopening.

UserFriendly14 · 16/06/2020 16:28

Have you considered changing your holiday dates? I believe 2021 is an open to this too.

Thingsthatgo · 16/06/2020 16:30

Yes, I hadn’t thought of that. Maybe they’ll let us move our deposit to another time.
Thank you that’s a great idea.

I recently read that Hoseasons (under pressure from all the complaints to trading standards) have changed their cancellation policy.
You now pay the balance 3 weeks before instead of 10 and if the government change things so your holiday is cancelled you get a full refund.

My balance is also due next Monday, I’ve spoken to the cottage owner and they said they plan to open on the 6th and have put new in place new procedures such as contactless Check-In/ checkout and removing certain items such as hairdryer.

They have updated their Covid 19 details on their website today

I ended up pushing my May Hoseason holiday to next year, but Twitter was infinitely faster than email or phone. Their social team was great

According to Park Dean Holidays (I've booked with them) all compare waiting for an announcement due on the 4th July to see if they will open the parks. I don't have cancellation insurance so I just have to wait and see if they're opening (with or without pools, evening entertainment) or refund or change the date

Yellowbutterfly1 · 16/06/2020 17:23

The announcement needs to be before 4th July, the government know school holidays are coming up and thousands had booked trips months ago.

Here's the link to the latest news on the Hoseasons website:

Hope this helps.

Thank you all for you’re help. I think I’m going to roll my deposit over to next year.

Hoseasons were really good with us- we had a £1200 fully paid booking for easter and they moved it to the same dates next year with no delay and no extra charges.
