I have a used children's bunk-bed from ikea which is in really good condition. Been used for less than 12 months and was planning to sell now as i no longer need it and have bought a replacement one.

Unfortunately where i live has started to have things pinched from outside our front doors and over the weekend as i was sorting out the various parts of this i realised i left one part of the bed outdoors and has now disappeared. Pic attached. This part is vital to the whole bed and I am really upset about it. OH is now out of work and I could have done with a little extra in my pocket tbh.

Can anyone suggest anything helpful in terms of suggestions of how it can be rescued (if at all) - should i just try and sell it anyway with the missing part: would anyone buy it like that ? I have no clue. Or is it destined for bed heaven ? Or if i dont sell it does anyone have any ideas on what else it could be used for ? Am a keen new gardener and my neighbour has suggested i use it for netting on my new veggies but i just cant .. Confused

Is the whole top section that stops the child falling off the top bunk missing? If so I don’t think it would be safe to use again. Sorry. It’s really crap that someone has helped themselves to it without even asking if you were getting rid of it.

Could you remove the ladder part and sell it as a single bed instead?

ohoneohtwo · 16/06/2020 12:43

Just bin it. You can't sell a bed like that.

user1495884620 · 16/06/2020 12:43

Is it an all-in-one bunk bed or one that you can split into two singles that you could sell separately?

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 16/06/2020 12:44

Contact Ikea to see if a replacement part can be obtained? If not, put it out front with a sign 'Free to whoever can make use of it but xxxxx is missing'.

Never leave anything out front that you can't afford to lose if things usually get pinched.

Crunchymum · 16/06/2020 12:45

It will be unsafe without the missing bits I am afraid.

Euclid · 16/06/2020 12:48

I agree with a PP that you should ask IKEA if they can supply the missing part.

SnugglySnerd · 16/06/2020 12:48

Sometimes people want replacement parts e.g. I sold the padded covers off the car seat straps even though the car seat had had it and was destined for the tip. It might be worth listing the individual parts on a selling site because someone else might have broken the ladder or something.

Spied · 16/06/2020 12:50

Bin it. It's not safe.

Hadn't thought of this...shall consider this now. thanks

It's mote than a small part, it look like the whole top of the bed frame?

Not worth getting replacement part unless you can sell it for more than the part

This is also something i had not thought of Perhaps i shall break it down into parts and sell them off that way

I can't imagine IKEA supplying the whole top section for free, it's a cheap bed, not really worth your effort paying for a new part to try and sell it for next to nothing anyway.

I know people don't want to be wasteful but it's essentially a cheap as chips broken bed. Bin it.

1forAll74 · 16/06/2020 13:11

I would think of some further use for it, as in a shed, or greenhouse etc. I rarely throw things away if I can make something else out of them.

A few years ago, I saw some really decent planks of wood in someones skip. so asked them if I could have them, they said yes, so brought them home.and I made two wooden plant troughs out of them.

MissSmiley · 16/06/2020 14:32

Put the rest of it outside and watch to see who comes to get the other bits and then confront them

TheCanyon · 16/06/2020 15:30

Is it just the netting? I dunno, I reckon Ikea might well give you a new one

Yes, I’d bet on the original thief making a reappearance.

Otherwise it’s a broken flat pack bed that costs under £100 brand new. You wouldn’t have got much money for it even if you had all the pieces. Just chuck it.

LolaDarkdestroyer · 16/06/2020 16:31

Tbh you would have got £40 for it if you were lucky as Ikea beds need Ikea mattresses so not many takers as they'd need to buy mattresses...plus at the minute everyone is giving things away free. Probably the scrap man took it? But you left it out there and it e we oils have probably been ruined by the time you remembered!
Also move house.
