Has anyone have experience with 2 consecutive missed miscarriage

Hi all,
I went for a scan today after having brown discharge for few days. They found a gestational sac without any fetal pole
I had another scan earlier at 6 weeks which showed a viable pregnancy.

I had another MMC in January and I thought having two MMC in a row is very rare.I know they would not offer me any tests unless I have another one in future.

I was wondering ,is there anyone here who had same experience in the past and then has successful pregnancy?

May be this is not the right time to ask this question but I really don't know how do I cope.I thought I can reach you guys.xx

I had IVF. I had two missed miscarriages both with a blighted ovum in untested embryos and so my consultant advised that i had recurrent miscarriage testing on that basis alone. The results were normal. As a result we then had the embryos tested. A high number were abnormal. We subsequently had two successful pregnancies with two embryos that had tested normal.

My GP has referred me to Professor Quenby but I don't know how long the wait is. Does anyone have an idea as to the cost of private testing and what it entails?

My concern is trying again before having any tests and I find myself in the same situation as I am in now if that makes sense. I don't think I could go through this again. The first time didn't affect me much but the second time has really been tough both physically and emotionally.

Hi OP,

Yes I have. I've had a few miscarriages that happened naturally and then I had 3 MMC in a row.

I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with a successful pregnancy (so far!).

X

I had a genetic issue confirmed via testing by the way. This pregnancy has also been confirmed as NOT being affected by the same problem.

HalGem99 · 18/09/2020 11:48

Polkapoo massive congratulations to you!

Did you pay for testing or was it NHS? If you did pay, what sort of costs were involved and what do they do for testing? Xx

So sorry you're going through this. Please don't lose hope! I had 6 miscarriages in a row (3mmc at about 9 weeks with 1 of those that needed an ERPC and 3 natural at 6 weeks).

I was on the waiting list for St Mary's recurrent miscarriage clinic when I got pregnant with DS1 and by the time the appointment came around I was very pregnant so could cancel. I've now got two DC.

In my case, I was getting pregnant literally every time we tried. I don't know for sure as I never did have any tests, but I've since heard about a condition called an 'unfussy womb' where the uterus doesn't discriminate between viable and non viable embryos, and just implants ones that never should be implanted.

Not saying this is the case for you, but it seemed to fit my experience of getting pregnant each time of trying just to end up in mc.

I would get your body in good working order. I know of several occurrences (myself included) where successful pregnancies followed a loss of weight through healthy eating and exercise. I wasn't large to start with but lost about a stone so I was at the lower end of normal on bmi. I then got unexpectedly pregnant which was the first time without ivf. After lots of mc and ivf it was a totally different experience. I am not sure paying for tests will tell you much and I think miscarriage and multiple miscarriage is a lot more common than they'd have you believe.

HalGem99 · 18/09/2020 12:02

InYerFace thank you for sharing your experience. That is really interesting, I've never heard of that before! Xx

HalGem99 · 18/09/2020 12:05

Sparkly banana I am 100% going to lose weight and do exercise and eat right etc to give myself the best chance possible! Xx

InYerFace · 18/09/2020 12:20

@HalGem99 No probs at all. Think they also call it 'hyper fertility'.

Recurrent m/c is such a horrendous time and I really feel for you. Wishing you all the luck in the world for a successful pregnancy next time round.

InYerFace · 18/09/2020 12:35

Just to give you a slightly different point of view, while trying to conceive I spent two years eating healthily, not drinking, exercising - but at the same time feeling super stressed, upset and uptight mentally about the whole thing. It was a dark time.

After 6 m/c I'd had enough. Went on holiday, drank cocktails, ate whatever I wanted, forgot about trying to get pregnant and just really relaxed and enjoyed myself. DS was conceived on that holiday, although admittedly could have just been a coincidence!

Cabbiefix · 18/09/2020 12:49

Another yes here.

We had two MMCs in the same year then couldn't get pregnant again for over a year after the second. We got referred for IVF which got canceled due to Covid but then we fell pregnant! Currently 28weeks so it can happen ❤️

It's hard to go through what you are and there will be good days and really shit days and the only advice I can give you is just take each day as it comes and if you're having a shit day don't ever feel like you need to snap out of it or put a brave face on, you just do you.

Stay strong ❤️ it will happen xx

My friend had 5 miscarriages in a row. She blogged about her treatment and now has 2 children. Hope it helps.

I'm so sorry you've experienced this, I don't have much of value to add except my thoughts and recommend the podcast M's The Word which is all about miscarriage and created by mothers who've been through it and come out the other side. Flowers
