When i dont want to go to huge amounts of effort for niece's christmas present?

PinkChick · 24/09/2007 12:51

because every year, every present for birthday or christmas ends up on ebay!

i actually ask them what we should get and they tell me exactly what she wants and i know children 'grow' out of things, but we are not talking baby tos here, expansive toys, to use for long time, even put away and swap so dont get bored?

But no, i spend ages chossing right thing, fining out from them ideas and then it go's on action few months later

PinkChick · 24/09/2007 13:20

LOL, hmm, shes not into HSm, but a show might be good idea, although id have to buy tickets for them all as she's rather spirited and dont think id relish an afternoon dealing with i wants andtantrums

EmsMum · 24/09/2007 13:34

Get one of those story books or CDs customised with the child's name, friends name etc. That'd be more of a challenge to flog.

PinkChick · 24/09/2007 13:34

she has everything her parents buy presents like there is no tomorrow, i know we all like to 'spoil' our lo's but there is not a thing she doesnt have at least one kind off..so me guessing what to get her wouldnt work!

i need to buy something that is perishable, cant be re-sold?..hmmmm..yet here i am putting loads of effort into what to get her...is SEPTEMBER!

Does she like animals? If so you could get her an 'adopt an animal' experince. Anything from cats/dogs froma rescue centre to Dolpins, Tigers or Apes. Don't know how much it is though?

You'd get a pack with photo's and info etc.

PinkChick · 24/09/2007 13:36

would i look like i was being awkward if i didnt ask mum what she would like and just went out and got something(we normally ask, she asks what dd would like..but i dont sell them on ebay!)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/09/2007 13:37

ROFL at ebay vouchers

Vouchers the way to go.

PinkChick · 24/09/2007 13:37

ooh good idea rabbitchat!..what do things like that cost??..or would a four yr old(particulary THIS 4 yr old!) look at it like id just taken her sweets off her????

OP posts:
EmsMum · 24/09/2007 13:37

Oh yeah...adopt a dog from the Dog's Trust. I've never done that for my (totally unspoilt but dog-loving) neice cos I wasn't sure if the subsequent extra appeals letters would go to her or me, but if in your situation I mightnt care.

RosaLuxembourg · 24/09/2007 13:38

Personally I think your SIL is incredibly rude and I would be inclined to confront her on the issue - does she know you know she Ebays the presents?

NorthernRockCod · 24/09/2007 13:38

i would

or just nto buy one and see fi she says owt

just don't get anything! she clearly has enouh and one less present won't be noticed I rekon

Rabbitchat · 24/09/2007 13:42

PinkChick - adopt a dolphin or a tiger - Argos, £20! You could look into it further if you wanted as I know that cat & dog rescue places let you 'adopt also and send yu little adoption packs with pictures, stickers etc. You could add something tangeale to it for her like a small toy of the dolphin/tiger - couldn't really e-bay that as it 'part' of the present?!

Sheherazadethegoat · 24/09/2007 13:42

you could offer to buy her some dance lessons or take her to see some sort of show, tweenies or some such (shudder)
