Yes it’s petty, yes it’s stupid, yes there have been multiple threads on it but ffs i have just opened 3 threads in a row where people say “myself and DH” or “DS and myself”!

STOP ITTTTTT!!!!!!! 😬😬😬😭😭😭🙈🙈🙈

It’s almost as annoying as the use of caps lock and emojis 😄

13% of people use “myself” incorrectly

I had a thoroughly inept manager who gave me a letter to type where she had written 'do not hesitate to speak to myself' I corrected it. She made me change it back..

crispysausagerolls · 15/06/2020 20:48

@Northernsoullover 😱 no she didn’t! Did you tell her it was wrong?

You know when you accidentally bite a foil wrapper? It's the verbal equivalent.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 15/06/2020 20:55

Where has it come from? I genuinely don't understand.

livefornaps · 15/06/2020 20:56

@LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE has it!!!!

Laniakea · 15/06/2020 20:57

It is the most annoying thing on the internet. Often seen in posts where the poster uses ‘I’ when they should use ‘me’. irl too but fortunately I rarely come across in the wild.

“You know when you accidentally bite a foil wrapper?”

Perfect analogy!

Abbccc · 15/06/2020 20:58

"I will send it to your good selves".Shock

fairgame84 · 15/06/2020 20:59

I myself think you are NBU.

SlightyJaded · 15/06/2020 21:01

It is predominantly used by petty people who like to complain and overuse exclamation marks. Especially on TripAdvisor.

"Myself and My husband were so disappointed that the hotel did not supply a full English breakfast as this is something that my husband and myself would consider a treat and what you would expect on holiday. Also none of the Greek waiters could speak English which was really frustrating as my husband and myself pacifically wanted to request some marmalade which we did not know the Greek for. Honestly - call yourself a four star hotel??!!!!!! We will not be returning!!!!!!!"

stardance · 15/06/2020 21:02

I work with someone who uses it all the time. Really irritating.

Laniakea · 15/06/2020 21:03

I think it’s people trying to sound clever. Not had people I guess but no less annoying.

The truth is out there ;)

Ffs not ‘bad’ (& why does my phone insist bad must be corrected to had? wanker phone)

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/06/2020 21:06

I judge. Oh yes, I judge...

TwistedSisters · 15/06/2020 21:06

It's as bad as mixing up 'your' and 'you're'. That never fails to set my teeth on edge. Angry

Laniakea · 15/06/2020 21:08

Can we blame De La Soul? Grin

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 15/06/2020 21:11

How about 'your good self?'

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 15/06/2020 21:14

Ah, just seen someone beat me to that one. It's the same kind of person that asks 'what can I do you for?' Real teeth-sucking moments.

Abbccc · 15/06/2020 21:23

It is!
crispysausagerolls · 15/06/2020 22:12

Ah this thread has cheered me up! I was fully expecting a number of people to tell me
I am a judgemental arsehole. Which I am, but I am also right 🤣

@SlightyJaded

Your review has really tickled me. I do enjoy an explanation mark though... maybe I have to leave the pedant’s corner

I was thinking the same earlier. I have the same reaction to it as I do to 'alot'. YANBU.

Worriedmutt · 15/06/2020 22:25

I can't offer evidence but I have a feeling that Priti Patel is a repeat myself misuser. Which leads me to wonder, what makes this misuse particularly annoying? Is it the use of myself itself, or the innately annoying type of person who is a myself perpetrator ?

Northernsoullover · 15/06/2020 22:35

@crispysausagerolls I did but she wasn't having any of it

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 15/06/2020 22:35

I work with someone who sends the following email on a regular basis:

The attached was sent to ourselves by yourselves, having read this myself I have now passed this onto my colleague who will respond herself.

I'm the colleague who will respond & I am copied into these emails on an almost daily basis. Thankfully I'm leaving in 2 weeks & will never have to receive an email from this person ever again Smile
