Non essential shops

I just wondered if people are planning on going to these non essential shops now they’ve opened back up? I’m not planning on it myself I think it’s still to risky I get they need to open sometime but I do wonder how they will manage to keep social distancing, also I just read people should refrain from touching things, how will this work with trying on clothes? Also if you take something back the shop they should quarantine it for 72hrs where will they store all the returns?

So I guess if I say
IABU = you think it’s fine and will go shopping
IANBU = you won’t be going shopping

The virus is barely out there now.

notheragain4 · 15/06/2020 08:31

I don't think it's risky. But all the BS rules make it sound shit so I'm not planning on it until social distancing is reduced. I can get everything I want online but I do love a browse, but not doing that with queues, quarantines etc.

JustFloatingBy · 15/06/2020 08:31

My 3YO needs new shoes 😬

So I'm going to risk a trip to a shoe shop with him. Probably tomorrow..... I don't want to go today in case that's everyone's plan!

JustFloatingBy · 15/06/2020 08:32

Also, the county I'm in has had really low numbers, so the risk is pretty low.

Justgivemesomepeace · 15/06/2020 08:33

I need a sofa desperately. Mine was knackered beforeclockdown but 3 months of the whole family on it all day everyday and its demolished. That's where I'm heading off today.

TerrapinStation · 15/06/2020 08:33

Areyou going to go to threshold is becoming the new corona daily thread, there's going to need to be a new topic set up, just about every thread on my active convos is about the same thing.

TerrapinStation · 15/06/2020 08:34

Sorry, funny autocorrect threshold = the shops

TheWernethWife · 15/06/2020 08:38

Poodles changing rooms will be closed so no trying on clothes. I took a top back to Sainsbury's recently and the woman on customer services made me feel like a leper. She had gloves on but still recoiled at touching it.

If you can't try on then surely you will have to return it.

Virus is increasing in our area, we had 15% of all the deaths in the country over a few days at our two closest hospitals. I'm assuming local lockdowns are something the talked about with no intention of actually doing it. Def not shopping and I hope the shop staff will be safe!

PoodlesOnPatrol · 15/06/2020 09:20

@theonlywayisapple. I agree the government are not reporting so many deaths anymore so it will feel as though the virus is barely there but I do find that hard to believe simply because the R number has risen when R number was high last time we were having huge amounts of deaths.

@JustFloatingBy. You have to risk it your child needs shoes so good luck!

@Justgivemesomepeace. I also need a new sofas but I’d rather buy online you always get much better deals anyway. But good luck hope you find what you’re looking for.

@TerrapinStation sorry I’ve not seen any other threads on shopping otherwise I’d have not started one.

@TheWernethWife. Oh I didn’t realise the changing rooms were closed which does make perfect sense! But I still don’t get where they will quarantine all the things for 72hrs, if I don’t try the things on before taking them home 9/10 I end up taking them back.

@greathat. That’s so worrying for you, I guess all you can do is take as little risk as necessary and stay as safe as you can. Hopefully those who have to put themselves at risk through work will have the protection they need.

Non-essential shops and places such as zoos and wildlife parks should have opened earlier, if one-way systems, screens and no changing rooms were in place. What should not have been permitted is travelling long distances to beaches where social distancing could not be easily observed, and no-one was spending money in the local economy there.

I work in a pharmacy and so we have been open the entire time.

Things that have been handled by a customer and not bought is put in a clear plastic bag, sealed with the dated label and stored in a designated area of our stock room.
We have baskets at the doorway as people go in and another stack to leave them at the tills. We sanitize them before they go back to the other pile.
We clean the store three times a day, more so if needed.

PoodlesOnPatrol · 15/06/2020 10:07

@britnay. You have a good system going at your pharmacy but I think the average store selling clothes shoes etc wouldn’t go to those lengths.

Probably not, which is why I have no plans to go shopping yet ;)

Ilovecats23 · 15/06/2020 14:02

Personally I won’t be going shopping, probably until the end of the year at this rate, I’m pregnant and while I know we aren’t at great risk, I couldn’t forgive myself if the worst happened. And then when he’s born (due beginning of August) I won’t feel comfortable as he’ll be so tiny and vulnerable! But I don’t judge people who do go! If you’re healthy and fit and don’t live with anyone shielding then I can see why you wouldn’t have a problem going!
