Hello, I know it's not an aibu but couldnt fine another topic. My teeth hurt.. I went to dentist last august, massive fear of dental treatment, told I dont need filings however have gum disease!
My teeth have always been my best feature have a couple of fillings, brush twice daily. I seen a hygienist and she done an agonising scale and polish about jan I made a follow up appointment that has now been cancelled. I now use electric toothbrush, floss daily using the plastic things, hate the brushes..
My teeth feel manky, my gums have an itchy sensation, feel like my breath smells. I wear ppe at work so I notice. I feel my teeth are going to drop out.
Does anyone have any tips to get stop this getting worse or get rid of it. I'm 39.

It has different speed settings so I would start on the lowest setting until the gums heal a bit and gradually up it when you are comfortable. Use warm water in it only as cold water will chill you to the bone.

Waterflossing can be a bit messy at first just lean over the sink and learn what angle suits you best.

If I let my flossing slide it can hurt to begin with even on lowest setting but not terribly so.

Using corsodyl toothpaste and mouth wash for a spell might help also. I use corsodyl toothpaste all the time as can't stand other mint toothpastes, they make me heave.

Inter dental brushes sorts the bleeding for me - I have to use them every day. Floss does nothing 😭

Stripesgalore · 19/07/2020 18:48

OP, if they said it wasn’t that bad, it should work out fine. Mine was bad with bone loss and I still resolved it with interdental brushes and Corsydl.

Thanks op. I think as I can see the tarta on my tooth and that's with flossing and electric tooth brushing twice daily I feel it's got alot worse.. I have the trays for teeth whitening as I done it years ago would that help does anyone think? Although it would probably aggravate my gums more, however kill the bacteria..

Is it true that Corsodyl can stain your teeth?

Haworthia · 19/07/2020 18:57

I have terrible gum recession, I hate it.

Does anyone else struggle with interdental brushes though? My teeth are so tightly packed together after years of braces, there’s no way I can get even the thinnest one between my teeth. Similar problems with floss. End up cutting my gums like cheese wire 😩

bellalou1234 · 19/07/2020 18:57

I'm sure it is true. And as previous posters have said dont use after brushing, I'm sure I read somewhere teeth are more porous

Watching with interest as my gums have receeded significantly in the past couple of weeks.

Have just ordered some Corsodyl mouthwash and Genigel online. I already sleep in a mouth guard and use interdental brushes.

Haworthia I struggle with interdental brushes no matter what the size.. I use the plastic flosses dipped in cordysal..

Me, my teeth are crowded and I now have an auto-immune arthritis that affects my hands. I know the water flosser isn't as good as Tepes etc. but the dentist and periodontist are entirely realistic that this is better than nothing. (I couldn't floss my teeth in some areas as it shredded the floss.)

Came to say I was told mine was bad and had bone loss, so worse than yours, and it resolved with a lot of trips to the hygienist, now every 3 months (at least before lockdown), interdental brushing every day and electric toothbrush twice a day.

Hi, was just about to start a thread when I stumbled across this one. How is everyone's gums doing? I've had gum disease for a couple of years and it was getting so much better. But because of Covid closures I've missed all my dentist and hygenist appointments this year and it's now pretty bad again. I really struggle with interdental brushes. Because of the movement of my teeth I have 4 different sizes but I struggle to use the smaller ones because I end up stabbing my gums and making them bleed. Does anyone have any tips for this?

Who recommended these sizes to you? What size are you using for your smallest one?
CoolYourBeansMySon · 10/11/2020 00:05

I've got a hygenist appointment in a few weeks to go through it. I went to Boots to get some red ones as they were the ones the hygenist told me to use when I was having treatment before. They were too big so I went back to get some pink (size 0). I just keep stabbing my gums and bending them.
I'm also using yellow for the bigger gaps and the long handled red ones for the back.

Try oil pulling with coconut oil.

Onthelowdown · 10/11/2020 00:44

Are you changing the toothbrush head regularly? You can usually see the bristles at the edge start to stick out when they’ve been overused. Occasionally I forget to change mine on time and feel a big difference.

I’m not an expert but plaque hardens and turns to tartar if not removed as far as I know so if you see tartar accumulating that could be due to an ineffective brush.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 10/11/2020 01:02

No, I don't change my toothbrush head as often as I should. TBH I struggle with "personal admin" which is why I am where I am. But I have now bought some new heads which have "floss action". It's all of my own doing but I really want to try to change.

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 10/11/2020 01:03

Get yourself some Corsodyl! It's a bloody miracle worker.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 10/11/2020 01:04

Thanks for your messages by the way, they are helping me figure it out.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 10/11/2020 01:05

Corsodyl is on my shopping list for tomorrow!

Completelyfrozen · 10/11/2020 01:35

I have gum disease and sensitive teeth.
My routine is as follows. I floss my teeth with Dr Tungs floss, then use a waterpik with warm water. After this, I brush with a sonic toothbrush using gum invigorate toothpaste.
This is followed by tongue brushing.
I finish with Dentyl PH mouthwash for 30 seconds, followed by using Gengigel mouthwash.
I understand that this may sound OTT to some, but I've gone from loose teeth and constant irritation of the gums, bleeding gums and fear of bad breath to pink gums that never bleed and my mouth feels normal again.
Also want to mention that most people have some form of gum disease once they are in their 40's. Sad fact of life I'm afraid but I will do anything to feel comfortable and save my teeth.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 10/11/2020 01:58

Is Gengigel mouthwash better than Cordsoyl?
