No pause on Brexit so failure can be blamed on COVID

Well it is, isn't it? I had been thinking that maybe the gov would allow for a longer transition at least given we are and will be for the foreseeable future completely floored by COVID and its after-effects. But they're determined to push it through because then they can claim that everything would have been marvellous if COVID hadn't happened and it's not at all the case that Brexit was always a Terrible Idea (and they have all known all along that it is but they don't want to lose voters)

I agree and also I think there are a number of people in the tory party who are secretly pleased by the 'opportunities' offered by covid to 'reset' the UK e.g by pushing through poorer food standards, reduced human rights, increased privatisation of the nhs whilst attentions are focussed elsewhere.

I agree. It's certainly the case that Covid hasn't helped any, but many firms going under / announcing large scale redundancies were already saying that Brexit was pushing them to the edge. Many have now fallen over the cliff. But we can't rewrite history, and there was never going to be a deal that the UK would accept, so it is what it is. Welcome to chlorinated chicken...
