I Need Help With Baby Names!!!!

I'm a couple of months into the pregnancy of my first child! The doctors told me that I'd be having a baby girl. I went to the doctor again last week and then she confirmed that I wasn't actually going to have a girl but a boy! I wanted to name my daughter Anna Nellie, because Nellie is a family name and Anna is the name I had been dreaming of for my baby girl.

I could alway change the middle name to David because that is also a treasured name in my family. I'm not 100% sure about what I'm doing since this is my first and all. My husband and I have been trying to come up with a good boy name to replace the name Anna but it doesn't really have a 'genderbend' to it. If you know any male names that are the opposite of Anna I'd really appreciate it!!!

Personally, I wouldn't go with a boy's name which was too similar to Anna unless you're certain that you aren't going to have another child. Because if later you have a girl and want to call her Anna but it sounds to similar to her brother's name...
Though, tbf, I doubt there are many which are too close to Anna for you to potentially use both.

But, in case:
Andrew
Andreas
Angus
Arthur

There's a whole baby names board, perhaps try there?

BetsyBigNose · 13/06/2020 03:13

I really like Christopher. It seems to be getting less popular in recent years - which is a good thing, as you don't want him to have the same name as 4 other boys in his class! I think Chris is a good shortened version (I always think 'Chris' sounds like a decent, dependable bloke!) and there's always Topher, if you fancied something a bit different. Christopher was top of our list of boys names, but we've got 2 DDs (11 & 13) and we're not planning any more.

Anna was nearly DD2's name, until my DSis pointed out it was quite close to Hannah - which is the name of another member of our immediate family, so she has it as her middle name instead.

Good luck with the baby!

Names don't have opposites. Do you mean a name that would complement Anna?

AuntyBess · 13/06/2020 03:39

At what gestation can the sex if a child be determined? A couple of months?

...feels old...

MarshmallowsOnToast · 13/06/2020 04:01

@Auntybess

From a scan, usually around 16 weeks. That's generally through private scan though as normally NHS scans are at 12/20 weeks so most wait until the 20wk mark.

I think they can tell earlier if you're having genetic testing done such as NIPT or harmony but I'm not too sure how that works exactly. Just from what I've seen on here.

Nellie the elephant.... sorry.

user8558 · 13/06/2020 07:32

Anders?

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 13/06/2020 07:36

A child called Nellie will probably have endless Nellie the elephant jokes... At least in UK.

What about biblical boy names... Noah, Saul,? Etc

sorryiasked · 13/06/2020 07:42

Emmanuel could be shortened to Nellie?

Gina576 · 15/06/2020 23:40

To clear up any misunderstandings, I was going to wait until the baby was born first to find out the sex but then I changed my mind somewhere in the middle. I'm still name hunting by the way. I was thinking maybe Arden? It's a biblical name that means garden of eden and could be for a boy or girl!

Arden sounds either like Irish or American. It’s also very similar to Jacinda Ardern (NZ prime minister).

Coffeekisses · 16/06/2020 00:10

I think Arden is gorgeous.

Alternatively how about Abe, Eben, Casper, Arnold, Lucas, Nate?
