Do you think eating out (un healthy food) once a week is to much?

2-3000 calories? Which burgers are you eating? A quick google of Five Guys and GBK for a bacon cheeseburger and fries is roughly 1200-1500 depending on the size of fries

shinynewapple2020 · 12/06/2020 12:05

That's fine - particularly as your whole family looks forward to it.

I don't know if you are talking takeaway, or eating out (pre/post Covid) but if it's the sense of occasion that your family enjoys may be try different restaurants / foods some weeks instead.

crimsonlake · 12/06/2020 12:08

Personally I think it should be a treat, once a week is not a treat, it has become a regular thing.

On the contrary, I think food shouldn't be used as a treat. It's something we need to survive, not something that should be used to reward or punish.

A weekly burger and fries alongside a regular, balanced diet is absolutely fine. They don't contain poison - it's just normal food. Our society has such warped views around food - of course don't need it daily, but you shouldn't be eating the same things everyday anyway - variety is what's important.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/06/2020 12:14

Well I wouldn't, I once looked at a burger and it was so unhealthy I died

You looked at one?

I once heard about a burger and it killed me twice.

ouch321 · 12/06/2020 12:19

Lol at Brillo

Yes, it's fine despite what many will say on here.
And as others acknowledge there is competitive under-eating and piousness on here.
Takeaways, ready meals, and eating out are BAD. Only 100% home cooked meals from fresh which are dominated by vegetables are seemingly acceptable.

bluefoxmug · 12/06/2020 12:22

it's not worse to having fish&ships or american style pizza once a week...

isseywith4vampirecats · 12/06/2020 12:26

I for one am glad that people eat out I work at tgi Fridays and if people stopped eating out when they are allowed back in I would be out of work and it depends what you call unhealthy food I would call a donor kebab well unhealthy but it doesent stop me from eating one occasionally but couldn't eat one every week

BarbeDwyer · 12/06/2020 12:48

Why on earth are you taking them to a burger restaurant when you can easily feed a family of 7 for a week with one free-range chicken?

Blondebakingmumma · 12/06/2020 12:55

Are you going out to avoid cooking or just enjoy the food? I make take away food at home because we can’t afford to go out every week. I don’t think a burger is too unhealthy unless it’s accompanied by chips and soft drink.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/06/2020 12:58

It's bread, meat, chips Confused

Not poison.

PleasantVille · 12/06/2020 13:06

How can anyone answer, there's no right or wrong response, being unhealthy is a dependant on a wide range of factors

Plus it seems that MN posters hav e bizarre attitudes to food and eating, don't take what anyone says as a simple truth

1forAll74 · 12/06/2020 13:31

Once a week is ok I would think. But I don't eat out,or ever have takeaways at all. Pizzas, burgers, and KFC stuff is all crap to me.

whensmynexthol1day · 12/06/2020 13:51

I think the benefits of

A) all being together in one place socialising as a family away from any devices etc. We must all be craving the opportunity to enjoy experiences with our families outside the home.
B) allowing the cooks/meal planners in the family to have a break
C) kids learning to sit through a longer meal

far outweigh any disadvantages from the food itself.

The fact that you are concerned about probably indicates you consciously feed your family balanced food the rest of the time.

PopcornAndWine · 12/06/2020 13:56

Your family enjoy it and look forward to it. Life is hard enough without feeling guilty about small pleasures. Carry on and eat healthily the rest of the time.

Personally I can't wait to get back to having occasional family meals out!
