Notheristerone for holiday?

Has anyone used this to temporarily stop menstruation ruining holidays?

If so, how did you find it - did it cause bloating/side effects and did it work?

It does work, however I was randomly throwing up and quite unwell whilst taking it. Don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not.

But when my period came - my god. I’ve had bad periods my whole life but I was in agony, I had to ring the GP for stronger painkillers. Was as bad as my back to back labour.

ohthegoodtimes · 12/06/2020 11:02

I've used it a few times with no problems. Just remember it increases the risk of dvt so if you are on a long flight make sure you are moving.

unkindnessofravens · 12/06/2020 11:05

Worked well for me with no side effects

WrongKindOfFace · 12/06/2020 11:11

It makes me a right grumpy twat. Personally I’ve found it better if I use to to delay the cycle before the holiday by a week or two which has a knock on effect - but of course that may not always work.

MinnieJackson · 12/06/2020 11:14

Never ever again! Sooo heavy and painful when I tapped and I have crazy bad periods anyway. Is there any other option like microgynon without a break?

MinnieJackson · 12/06/2020 11:15

Stopped*

Dairyfairies · 12/06/2020 11:23

have taken it a few times on holiday. Period afters were very heavy.

If you know when you are going and you are regularl, you could also take it a cycle or 2 before away so you period won't be due.

babynoname23 · 12/06/2020 11:30

I've taken this three times with no side effects but I don't usually get period pain

Lily2020 · 12/06/2020 11:36

I took it for a holiday, the following period was the most painful, heavy long period I've ever had. I wouldn't take it again.

nellyrose · 12/06/2020 11:45

no i would not ! i took it when i went on holiday, stopped my period and i thought everything was fine. when i came home i was so poorly in loads of pain lost massive blood clots. was in pain for days and days long story short after 5 hospital trips and getting snowed at home my appendix burst i nearly died i can't help but think it was linked.

MorganKitten · 12/06/2020 11:51

I use it all the time and never had an issue after

MorganKitten · 12/06/2020 11:53

Oh and the longest I’ve taken it is three months - working in the middle of a forest in the middle of nowhere. Always been fine.

chipsandpeas · 12/06/2020 11:54

ive used it and no issues apart from a bit more bloating that normal

monstermunchforlunch · 12/06/2020 11:56

I’ve used it a few times and whilst it doesn’t mess so much with my period, just slightly heavier than normal, it really makes me bloat and my skin goes to shit for weeks after. I still take it but only if the need is worth the side effects iykwim.

RhubarbBikini · 12/06/2020 12:21

I got some prescribed for my daughter when she first started her periods as she used to have a phobia of aircraft toilets so that she would have one less thing to worry about flying to and from Singapore.

My mother in law tut-tutted a bit when she heard this. But life is for living as free as stress as possible.

GruffyLove · 12/06/2020 12:25

I used it to delay my period - period came back heavy but the worst is probably my anxiety increased - very low mood - also argued lots with my husband on holiday and by the end I wanted to divorce him!

My mum was away on holiday with us and half way through she told me to stop taking it. I cut the dose down and actually my period didn't start don't think need as high a dose as they suggest. In the end I was taking one a day - and my period didn't start but then I'm thinking if I took 3 maybe I wouldn't have had permanent PMT on holiday

Bluntness100 · 12/06/2020 12:29

I use it regularly and have done for years, I’m now 51 and I’m currently using it to delay this period.

However when I first started I got the bloating and the period cramps. I reduced the dose to two a day to see if it still delayed it, and it did and the symptoms reduced, and so I reduced again out of curiousity and now I simply take one a day to delay it and have none of the symptoms or cramp.

I’d also say I’d agree your period is a bit worse when I comes.

Artesia · 12/06/2020 12:33

Like other posters, it did the job, but I had awful PMT and pretty much ruined the holiday due to my very low mood
