To ask what your ovarian cyst felt like

I've had a niggley achy, pinchy pain on my lower right side for about 3 weeks now. It comes and goes and is not severe.
Had urine checked, now going back tomo for blood test and being sent for an ultrasound
If you have experienced an ovarian cyst is this what it felt like? No other symptoms,
I had my appendix out at 12 but the pain is just like that, in the way that its more annoying than sore and it comes and goes
Thanks!

I had a haemorrhagic ovarian cyst last year. The most painful thing I have experienced, worst than childbirth and lasted about 6 weeks until it was reabsorbed into my body. I went to A&E about 3 times during that time not knowing what it was.

I had cramping pain in my abdomen but it also affected my vagina which was completely swollen, I had blood when I wiped inbetween periods, the cyst must have been pushing on a nerve as it felt like I had an infection but was checked multiple times and nothing showed up. I was put on all sorts of pain medication and different antibiotics but nothing worked until they finally did an ultrasound when I went in, in agony and found the cyst. Eventually the pain subsided and when I went for a follow up ultrasound it had gone. I survived on naproxen, pharmaceutical strength prescribed codeine + paracetamol and ibuprofen for weeks.

No symptoms until it was picked up during an ultrasound for fertility checks. Turns out I had 2 6cm cysts, one on each ovary. Had keyhole surgery to remove them both.

I had a nagging pain on my left side for years, worst when I had my period. I was found to have a large dermoid cyst, which I'd probably had from birth. I had to have both the cyst and ovary removed. Looking back the pain was relentless, but I thought it was normal.

@Louise000000
Yes!
I lost 3 stone in 5 hours!!
I honestly had absolutely no idea, my stomach was big but I'm very overweight and just thought it was fat!
The weight of the tumor and then the surgery has completely destroyed my stomach and back muscles so I'm now in constant pain. It will take intensive physio and a lot of time to feel any improvement

I had a 7cm haemorrhagic cyst that was an incidental finding from going to hospital with another problem. Didn't even know it was there. It went away on its own as well.

WalkTheTortoise · 12/06/2020 16:57

I didn’t know I had it.
My GP found it during a routine smear test examination. Turned out I had endometriosis and the ‘chocolate’ cyst was removed.

As though someone was pinching me inside with a pair of pliers. It was so bad sometimes that I couldn't bear any pressure on my abdomen. I remember lying on my bed while my husband very slowly and carefully removed all clothes from my lower body just so I could get some relief. It was a 7cm cyst - it and my ovaries since removed.

percheron67 · 12/06/2020 17:34

I had one removed about five years ago. Not painful but had a constant strange feeling in lower right side of abdomen. Checked with my (lovely) GP and a scan showed what it was.

Louise000000 · 13/06/2020 10:18

So my pain also seems to be in my left shoulder..... So right ovary and left shoulder.
So my gp is thinking its more something to do with my gallbladder.
Waiting on ultrasound appt and had bloods done yesterday

I've had an ovarian cyst which caused an torsion of my tube.
I've also had appendicitis.

The pain was practically identical.

Louise000000 · 13/06/2020 10:28

Mine is exactly like my appendicitis!!

did you get to the bottom of this OP?
currently scanning mums net for similar experiences to mine. i found out i have a cyst on my right ovary, only had a ultrasound because of miscarriage to find this.
no concerns from the nurses but now i know it’s there i do have aches

Louise000000 · 25/04/2026 22:32

This just went away one day! So was maybe a cyst that sorted itself out who knows
i think our ovaries can get cysts and they come and go regularly

really? i’m hoping for the same 😂
i don’t know how long it’s been there but only started having little niggles since last year but just put it down to ovulation pain. cycles are like clock work, no other symptoms apart from it did take me and partner over a year to conceive ( i do have a little boy from previous relationship he is 6) which i was concerned why it took us so long to get pregnant, ended up in a Miscarriage last week where they found the cyst. she said to go to my gp if i have pain from it. I did wonder if the cyst is a part of my infertility but she seems to think not.

Louise000000 · 27/04/2026 16:38

I had a large ovarian cyst due to IVF which burst when I was 12 weeks. It was the worst pain of my life, felt like I was being stabbed. A lot worse than childbirth

JohnTheRevelator · 27/04/2026 16:51

I had one many years ago that was subsequently removed by laparoscopy. It felt like an dull ache on one side of my lower pelvis, with intermittent stabbing pains.

that’s exactly how mine feels. so weird because iv had zero symptoms all this time, BOOM soon as iv had my scan, the stabbing pains and aches in that area have started. Not constant though, just on and off but daily. Ffs looks like i’ll have to take myself to the GP and convince them to take it out of me🥴😂
